They already negotiated an agreement with the six world powers in 2015 that Trump tore up.
They were in talks with Trump about renegotiating that agreement when he launched his surprise decapitation strike.
Theyve learned that Trump (the US) cannot be trusted and they know they hold the cards now.

Negotiations are sort of LOL. Trump is in the middle of a war only he suddenly doesn't want to play while everyone else appears more than happy to fight it out.

(24,668 posts)Trump can choose to lose face now, or lose even bigger later.
And Iran would be pretty stupid to participate in negotiations that Israel is not a direct party to.

(32,236 posts)Krasnov has to obey Putin, he is a Russian agent. Maybe Bibi has a copy of the Epstein files?
Now that we are a participant in a war with Iran the first step that Krasnov should be taking is to convince Bibi to stop bombing Iran, and he can't do that. Israel is not going to negotiate any deal with Iran, it wants Iran wiped off the map. How can anyone believe that negotiations are making progress when Israel wants no part of negotiations?
If Putin tells Krasnov to put US Marines on the ground, Krasnov will obey. If Putin asks Krasnov all of the details of the Marine invasion, Krasnov will obey and then Putin will relay those details to Iran, Krasnov is a Russian agent.
Putin and Bibi want this war to keep going, Krasnov has no way out, there is only one way out of a mob, the kiss.

(4,192 posts)... that Trump is more likely considered an asset; he's too stupid to be an agent, because an agent is supposed to be able to think. The difference is probably purposely vague, but either way, he's a fuckin' traitor, and even the room-temperature IQs that still support him are beginning to see the light, as dim as it may be in their foggy brainpans.

(296 posts)Little to nothing the administration has negotiated anywhere in the world has been honored.
Absolutely no one in the world should negotiate directly with us.
We used to send peace-keepers to negotiate tough situations.
Someone that both sides could trust.
The felon won't let anyone else get credit for anything so that won't happen
But it is definitely what needs to happen.
BTW- It looks like US troops may start their invasion this weekend (after the 5 day fake pause to control the stock market)
And recall that after each No Kings protests the orange shit stain does something dastardly and evil. (tear down the East Wing)

(25,914 posts)believes that his 5 day "reprieve" for Iran is anything but a stalling move to get US ground troops in place.
For sure Iran is not fooled and is prepared for this.

(1,764 posts)Sure long term Trump can't be trusted, but he's also a crap negotiator and Iran is currently being bombed. Not trying to end that isn't great as a government, and considering how many of their leaders have died, not good for their own life expectancy. Sometimes a bad deal is the best you can do. Just because Trump sucks doesn't make the Iranian government good guys. Sometimes everyone involved sucks and between the Iranian government, the Israeli government, and the US government, there aren't good people at the helm.

(13,360 posts)The message Trump sends is that we can bomb anyone anytime unless they have nuclear weapons. I assume Iran will now move heaven and earth to develop them.
Its also worth noting Iran was a secular democracy until they nationalized British oil interests and the CIA and MI6 fomented a coup in 1953 that installed the Shah which led to their revolution and an autocratic Islamic government.
EdmondDantes_
(1,764 posts)Iran was most likely already working to develop nuclear weapons. But you could apply that same logic to any of our bombings under Biden, Obama, Bush, etc. Likewise Russia or Israel. The only significant direct conflicts between nuclear armed countries that I can think of is India and Pakistan and even those have been limited. Obviously having nukes is a strategic benefit. That's nothing new.
Calling Iran a democracy in 1952 is a stretch. Not saying we should have overthrown the government, but the leader had just dissolved the Iranian parliament and was clearly moving increasingly to an overt dictatorship. Again not saying we should have staged a coup, but it wasn't a good government before we screwed up and the the Islamic revolution screwed things up even more.
Oh and the same guy was Shah of Iran from 1941 to 1979. We didn't appoint him Shah. We centralized power under him as he was deemed a better dictator than the prime minister who was nationalizing the oil in a rejection of the deal signed previously.

I'd say there are very few truly safe places in Iran right now. Probably severe shortages and skyrocketing prices. How much longer can you ignore these problems?
I wouldn't be surprised if Iran caves at some point. Yea, both sides are suffering in their own ways, but Iran is probably suffering way more. And while Iran's leadership may be able to negotiate some way out of this and save face, the people of Iran are going to be the ones who suffer the most. Only time will tell whom they blame more, their oppressive government or the US and Israel.
And to be clear, I consider this whole gong show to be completely Trump's fault.

(8,909 posts). . . is the fact that Trump's bad-faith actions (i.e., launching a strike while negotiations were supposed to be in progress) will impact the U.S.'s credibility as a negotiating partner for years to come!

(32,236 posts)There is a Saudi security expert on the video who has heard several sources claiming that Saudi Arabia and the UAE paid Krasnov a lot of money to invade Iran.
That explanation makes the most sense for our invasion of Iran.
