The reports that Saudi Arabia and the UAE paid Krasnov a huge sum of money to go to war with Iran, nothing else makes sense.
Michael Cohen knows Krasnov better than most people and he said that Krasnov's only reason for running for president was to become the richest man on the planet.
Oh sure there is a secondary reason, Krasnov is a Russian agent. Russia's economy is in tatters and so Krasnov removed Russia's oil sanctions and went to war which skyrocketed the price of crude, Russia's #1 money maker.

(69,352 posts)Around 1980 I visited a friend whose dad was with the International Monetary Fund. If you're not familiar with the IMF google it.
Anyway, he gave us a tour and the building had a whole floor set aside for Saudi Arabia. I was told that "the Saudis are our close friends."
The Saudis and their allies were highly instrumental in getting Reagan elected, as they spiked the price of oil and caused an energy crisis in the U.S., which was blamed on Carter (sound familiar?).
On 9/11 the masterminds and pilots behind the attacks were almost all Saudis. Osama bin Ladin was part of a wealthy influential Saudi family. Yet the U.S. invaded Afghanistan and Iraq.
Americans don't bother to learn much about the Middle East. We're taught to blame Israel for everything, but Israel is one tiny piece of the puzzle. Saudi Arabia is a great big powerful piece of the puzzle.
By the way, Iran is Persia. Culturally they are very different from Arabs. Eliminating Iraq as a power was a way for Saudi Arabia to get the U.S. to eliminate an economic rival. Eliminating Iran is a way to get the U.S. to eliminate even more than that.
Hillary Clinton, Biden, and Harris were pushing for alternative energy sources. That is very, very threatening to Saudi Arabia and the rest of the oil cartel. Without oil they're no longer fabulously wealthy and powerful.

(1,672 posts)Sunni vs Shiite.
Both want to claim theyre the voice of Islam. Historically the Saudi brand of Sunni Islam (Wahhabism) hasnt treated Shiites all that well throughout the Middle East.
MBS shouldnt be underestimated. Hes getting most of what he needs done by not lifting a finger. Hes undoubtadbly ruthless but at the same time, hes getting the West (primarily the US) to do his dirty work, raise oil prices, while hes investing in other areas outside of oil and gas at home. Hes been able to make diplomatic inroads with both the West, as well as BRICS members.

(23,138 posts)I mean, your reasons could be correct, but over the past year it seems pretty clear that many actions taken and orders issued from this administration emanate from Trumps impulses in the moment, without planning or consideration of the consequences.
At best, his decisions are a result of whoever was last whispering in his ear.

(32,263 posts)His policy making is based on quid pro quos. If the fossil fuel industry gives him money he takes care of them. If Saudi Arabia and the UAE give him money to go to war with Iran, he goes to war with Iran.

Sometimes the quid pro quo is with himself.
But sure, the Saudis are significant players in this mess as well.

(102,675 posts)Both mbs and bibi, we're supplying both with protection using taxpayer $$. And it seems -45 was paid by mbs to attack Iran. Payment made, the war goes forward with bibi goading him forward.
I heard, can't say where, but it's both of them. Bibi wants Iran destroyed and mbs wants a destabilized Iran, as do the neighboring countries because they are monarchies and Iran is not. Iran is a threat to their power over their subjects in such close proximity. Both mbs and bibi are quite happy to sacrifice US blood for their benefit.
We need to cut funding and military sales to both countries immediately and get rid of -45. Once that all happens, change can happen. Not until then.

(32,263 posts)the man said that Saudi Arabia and the UAE paid Krasnov to go to war with Iran, that's where I heard it.
Of course, no proof, but very believable.

(102,675 posts)But it's similar info from a different source from outside the US. I'm inclined to think there's something to it.
And then krasnov having sold our military intelligence is also a factor. They all should be hanged.
The key is to watch what they do not what they say.
