GOSHEN — On March 26, at the end of the third day of deliberations in Orange County Court, a jury convicted John Reilly III, 49, Town of Chester highway superintendent, on multiple counts for the shooting of Alpha Oumar Barry, a DoorDash delivery person.

Reilly was convicted of first-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault and eight counts of criminal possession of a firearm.

On sentencing day, scheduled for May 18, Reilly faces up to 25 years behind bars on the top charge, a felony, with a minimum of five years in state prison.

*On the day of the incident on May 2, 2025, around 9 p.m., Barry — 24 at the time, a legal immigrant from Guinea — approached Reilly’s home on Valerie Drive in the Town of Chester. While making a food delivery, Barry was lost with a dead phone battery and arrived, unarmed, at Reilly’s front door with a bag of food and asked for help with charging his phone.

After asking Barry to leave, Reilly went inside the house and returned with a sling holster and a .45 caliber Glock pistol.
