Broken News: Disney to Produce New Coming of Age Streamer

Has the Disney Channel come up with a winning new streaming series? Or will it be the next massive flop?

Production begins in July on a new dramedy, loosely patterned on the old Mid-50s series "Spin and Marty." This time, though, the two boys are adults, the sons of a fictional POTUS. With the working title of "Junior and Gums," this new streamer's plot lines are totally hush-hush, but early episode scripts are in the books and casting is almost finalized.

The unnamed producer of this new series said today, in a secretive interview, "Don't make this a political satire thing, please. We're as serious as COVID-19 with this series. It's gonna kill audiences and run for decades, we're certain. We'll get some preview footage for the media to view privately, as soon as possible."

Watch for more "Junior and Gums" info right here!

1. LOL! I thought this might be real news (with the "Broken News" bit being headline commentary) until

4. I used to watch "Spin And Marty" on re-reruns of the original Mickey Mouse Club when I was a kid.

Even as an eight year-old in the 70's, I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the overly-wholesome, squeaky-clean narrative, filled with 1950's paternalistic, Father-knows-best morality.

If they wanted to go for a "darker and grittier" version nowadays, even a parody like the one suggested might be an improvement.

6. Yeah. I was 10 years old in 1955, so I watched it then.

Things were pretty unsophisticated on TV in the 50s. But simpler, too.

Every once in a while, I watch one of those old sitcoms on YouTube (they're all there). Another time, to be sure.

7. At the time, Sherry from the original cast lived just a few doors down from my house.

It was known in the neighborhood, but it wasn't a big deal. Everyone gave her her privacy.
