Obama to lay out proposals - "a fair shake for all" - address economy in State of the Union

Obama to lay out proposals, address economy in State of the Union
From Jessica Yellin, CNN Chief White House Correspondent

updated 6:00 AM EST, Tue January 24, 2012

Washington (CNN) -- In his last State of the Union speech before the 2012 election, President Barack Obama will pitch a series of proposals and will address the topics of economic inequality and a government that should ensure "a fair shake for all."

A Democratic source briefed on the latest draft of the speech said Obama's proposals will include:

-- Tax reform so that wealthy Americans pay more and the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 expire

-- More refinancing for homeowners in trouble

-- Additional tax breaks for companies that bring back jobs to the United States

-- More clean energy incentives

-- Enhanced education and job-training initiatives, especially for high school graduates seeking technical degrees

-- Establishment of the so-called "Buffett Rule" that would set a minimum tax rate for people earning more than $1 million.

Given the treacherous state of the economy, the president's campaign aides are attempting to make the theme of the upcoming election a choice about the role of government and the future of the middle class -- not a referendum on the president's handling of the economy.

So he doesn't want to run on his record? Even I'm surprised. I wonder if they are even more worried about the european debt crisis than I am.

And that one of them has been doing nothing while the other has been actively tearing the system apart.

A great strategy for an incumbent president is to run around campaigning on the "it's not my fault" slogan.

How about the Supreme Court? Or are they blameless in your estimation?

Obama needs to run on his record, especially those parts that weren't forced on him by congress. He needs to run on the Auto bailout, the tax cuts, and his foreign policy.

The decisions he does make he's scored on passing the most legislation of any president in 3 yrs since LBJ.

Seems if you accept the article at all, you have to accept the whole article in essence. If you don't accept the article, then the entire premise of the thread is gone.
