Didn't at least one of the Supreme Court imbeciles famously say in his decision that corporations and special interests clearly wouldn't use it to buy elections?
That has turned out to be patently untrue.
Can we use that to bring the issue back up at the SC after this cursed administration has been relegated to the shit-can of history?

(820 posts)Corporations exist as State and not Federal entities. All you have to do is for legislatures to pass a law saying corporations cannot engage in political elections.
It can be done. Robert Reich has discussed this.

(3,203 posts)corporations are not allowed to make politicl contributions. There is a bill in CA for this right now. If Newsome backs it and it passes, it will neuter Ctizens United if I undderstand correctly.

(12,663 posts)Control them, they could merely pass legislation that would take the teeth out of Citizen United.
They could increase transparency laws so that dark money doesn't flow so readily. This is how Putin, Israel and the Saudis buy elections. They could put teeth into laws that punish those who coordinate super pacs and pacs with candidates.
Existing laws need to be fully enforced, which has been a longstanding challenge at the federal level thanks to dysfunction at the Federal Election Commission. And the FEC needs to be beefed up, expanded and prioritized.
I find it interesting that everything the dancing Supremes said wouldn't happen when they opened the flood gates on campaign funding did happen. Shows how stupid they are.
