Hegseth just authorized off-duty service members to carry private firearms on installations

No news stories yet that I've seen, but here's a government link

https://www.war.gov/News/News-Stories/Article/Article/4450527/hegseth-authorizes-off-duty-service-members-to-carry-private-firearms-on-instal/

and it says that Hegseth's video announcing this has him saying, "Not all enemies are foreign, nor are they all outside of our borders — some are domestic."

(without long term repercussions).

"Again, the presumption is service members will be able to have their Second Amendment right on post," he reiterated.

Sigh.

There's legitimate reasons why bases have armories, and don't let random weapons be carried on bases.
There a lot of foolish young people trying to prove themselves as adults for the first time away from their peeps, long hours of pointless isolation and/or boredom, cranky, mediocre leaders who " flew under the radar" doing the minimum to stay in the military for the time in service bennies, as well as access to alcohol...

Firearms are kept locked up on military bases. It wouldn’t take all that many men armed with their ‘civilian carry’ weapons to overcome a sleeping barrack. Take the motor pool, get armored transport. Take the flight line., establish control of the skies. Move on the statehouses of just a few states. ‘Establish Order”. Bobs your uncle.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs fired, a bunch of senior military officers too. Did you see that? That’s another tell. Dots lining up.

It's like the way they lined up in the Pentagon changes and cabinet firings between the November, 2020 election and the J6 insurrection.

Bring your Apache helicopter home for lunch. What a joke this clown is. Get that flag out of your pocket,, we don't stuff flags in pockets.

Let me tell you what is going to happen here.

Some GI who's upset over something his chain of command did is going to shoot one of his officers. And it'll happen again and again and again until base commanders say 'enough!' and reinstate installation-wide weapons bans.

In 1992 President George H.W. Bush signed a DoD-wide ban on packing heat off-duty. Before then it was up to the installation commander, and none of them allowed it. Firearms, alcohol and people who've been trained to shoot well are not a good combination.

2009 Fort Hood shooting

2014 Fort Hood shootings

Close quarters on a military base vulnerable to noise, disagreements, hostilities, mass violence, etc. Terrible place to allow private weapons. This will not end well.

But there have been a bunch of incidents in recent years of poor sick bastards shooting up bases, civilians, and themselves that he should recall. If he weren’t a lazy testosterone-poisoned drunk lunkhead himself.
