I'd be inclined to say people like Hegseth need to be put on an island together with just their racist bigoted selves

...but I know the best remedy and revenge for what they're fomenting against everyone who's not a white male is that they can't actually escape or meaningfully alter the diverse, equitable, inclusive America or world they loath.

Mike Levin @MikeLevin
The Army Chief of Staff, a combat veteran with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, asked Pete Hegseth why he was blocking the promotions of two Black officers and two female officers who had earned them.

Hegseth refused to answer. Then he fired him.

Nine U.S. officials told NBC News that Hegseth has blocked or delayed promotions for more than a dozen Black and female senior officers across all four branches of the military.

Hegseth has now fired or sidelined more than a dozen generals and admirals.

He is an out-of-control, unqualified former TV host and nobody in the Republican Party will say a word about it because they don’t want to make Trump angry.

Hegseth Holds Protestant-Only Religious Service at Pentagon

According to a Friday report from HuffPost, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s Pentagon held a Protestant-only Good Friday service at its in-house chapel, with no Catholic Mass scheduled for one of Christianity’s holiest days.

The setup, which excludes a Catholic service for the first time, drew frustration from at least one Pentagon employee after an internal email made the arrangement explicit.

“Just a friendly reminder: There will be a Protestant Service (No Catholic Mass) for Good Friday today at the Pentagon Chapel,” read a Friday email sent by Air Force leadership, according to a copy shared with HuffPost’s Jennifer Bendery.

“I guess so the Catholics know their kind ain’t welcome,” one employee said anonymously to HuffPost in response to the message. “It’s so ridiculous.”

I think that would make him see the error of his ways.

...the LAW and the legislative process requires that people do more than chat on the internet or make performative displays that have nothing to do with actual legislative or legal efforts which are the actual levers of action in a democracy.

So, yes, letters need to be written and delivered to perps and authoritarians alike in a process of accountability.

But what's rich about that meme is that it's always directed at people who've already fought and won actual fights in a democratic process against actual republican opposition to get where they are.

And it comes with an assumption that legislators acting outside of that process of democracy and law is some sort of convoluted imperative in confronting abuses of democracy and law.

We saw Rep. Raskin send such a letter last week...

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) on Wednesday sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi alleging that President Donald Trump took highly sensitive classified documents aboard his private plane and showed them off to passengers.

Understanding that the House minority that people who couldn't be bothered to vote in a majority saddled legislators like Raskin with doesn't have the power to subpoena, set hearings, compel testimony, or bring bills to the floor for a vote.

What he does have is the prospect a future majority WILL have that ability. It's a curious complaint that these legislators bother to make a record of the abuses and make the administration aware of their scrutiny.

You have to wonder what performative thing would substitute for actual legislative action; the actual legislative process?

We also saw the Democratic party last week filing a lawsuit which also required a 'letter' outlining their concerns to the administration as part of the record of accountability.

On behalf of the DSCC, DNC, DCCC, DGA, and Leaders Schumer and Jeffries, we have filed a lawsuit to block Trump latest illegal and unconstitutional executive order targeting voting.

Trump Mail-In Voting Executive Order Challenge (DSCC)

DSCC v. Trump

Filed: April 1, 2026

A pro-voting lawsuit challenging Trump’s executive order attacking mail-in voting.

Background

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, other Democratic organizations, and Senate and House Democratic leaders, filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging President Donald Trump’s executive order attacking access to mail-in voting. Plaintiffs assert that in response to Congress’ failure to pass the SAVE Act, Trump signed the unlawful order to “impose radical changes” to dramatically restrict Americans’ ability to vote by mail. The order directs agencies “to amass a national citizenship registry,” created in violation of federal privacy laws.

Plaintiffs emphasize that the U.S. Constitution squarely places election authority “in the hands of the Legislature rather than the Executive,” and that Congress has repeatedly sanctioned states to allow voting by mail. The lawsuit argues the president’s order exceeds the scope of his authority, and violates constitutional separation of powers, the First and Fifth amendments, the Voting Rights Act, the U.S. Postal Service’s statutory authority, and the Administrative Procedures Act. Plaintiffs seek to block the executive order.

Why It Matters

This is Trump’s second election-related executive order attempting to take control of federal elections and disenfranchise voters. Courts have consistently ruled that only Congress and the states – not the president – have authority over elections. Despite this, Trump has expressed repeated opposition to mail-in voting, saying at the order signing, “Cheating on mail-in voting is legendary. It’s horrible. Democrats want to use it for cheating.”. These actions, the lawsuit alleges, represent “the President’s unlawful attempts to upturn the electoral playing field in his own favor and against his political rivals.”

...yes, this too came with a sternly worded letter.

It's part of the democratic and legal process of accountability.

If you follow it from the 'letters' you will find the actual process of accountability which goes beyond the meme that so many seem to think is the end-all to Democratic efforts, or represents them as such for whatever reason.
