I assume that the National Guard Major who drinks too much and has way too many tattoos has the blessing of our demented President in firing seasoned General officers willy-nilly recently. I have to assume that, because how else could he get away with such nonsense? He has even fired the chief chaplain, a well-liked black Baptist guy. Is he not fundamentalist enough?
The word "unprecedented" is not nearly enough to describe such behavior. What can it mean? The General staff of our nation's military must be scratching their collective heads and trying to make sense out of all this. To General officers, Majors are disposables. They do a lot of the scutwork in the military, but are not usually taken seriously as leaders. A few might make it the two more steps up to becoming Generals, but not many. They're the utility employees, replaceable on a moment's notice.
So, what the heck is going on in the Pentagon? Trump is either directing this upheaval or at least tolerating it. Are those who are being shit-canned people who might speak out against stupid orders from the POTUS? Might they be military leaders who would refuse illegal orders from the POTUS? Do they need to be removed so they cannot stand in his way should he decide to nuke Iran or do some other brainless, destructive thing with the military?
I definitely think that's a possibility here. And that is very worrisome, indeed.
What do you think?

(130,614 posts)since he has even less understanding of military operations than Pete does. What the two of them have in common is that they want more than anything to look tough. Trump also wants to deflect from the Epstein files and to wreak vengeance on his political adversaries, which, when these things did not happen, Pam Bondi found herself looking up at the underside of the usual bus. I doubt Trump cares about the upheaval at the Pentagon, since he seems to be doing a fair amount of upheaving himself, and he obviously has no idea what's happening or what's going on in Iran - maybe because nobody dares to tell him lest they get yelled at or underbussed. If the war continues to go badly, which is almost guaranteed, Pete could find himself down there with Pam. Pete is sacking the generals because he stuck his dick in a hornet's nest at Trump's direction and doesn't know what else to do. Meanwhile Trump is stepping on every rake in the garden center and he doesn't know what to do either, so he's firing people too. This is how these two numpties think they can look tough and competent. But let's face it; we don't have a functioning federal government any more.

(40,767 posts)Shortly after Noem and Bondi getting fired, there was a NYPost or NYTimes article suggesting Hegseth might get the ax. And then a bunch of unconfirmed rumors, etc
Maybe he thinks Trump would agree that just firing people shows "strength" and "competency"

For example, that Army Chaplain may have commented negatively on Hegseth's public statement about not allowing any Roman Catholic Good Friday service at the Pentagon. That's Hegseth and dominionistic leaders' doing. They're not fans, especially with Pope Leo making negative statements about various Trump decisions.
That's my sense of it, anyhow.
