I cannot fathom how this Trump shitshow is allowed to continue

For the millionth time, I blame the evil Republican Party. We cannot let the GOP skate on all the destruction they have allowed and continue to allow.

1. We can point the finger of blame at many things and we'd be right.

I still reserve the right to lie whenever I think RFK jr etc may retaliate against scientists I don’t know at all (were my devices taken hostage)! This must have been what the old USSR was like.

Society does need some people who are not crazy to not have all their work thrown away by narcissists who may well get triggered by stuff as arbitrary as random online posters who can be tied to specific scientists.

Anyway I never heard of them! Galileo did it. Winston did it…so it is not just P.G.Wodehouse.

It is a complicated waltz between a now when nothing will matter much if they nuke the place and pushing back as much to check the scourge.

It really is a hostage situation where you are dealing with ppl of unclear levels of lunacy. Look at this Iran war. I wonder if they think it is all a simulation. This is madness.

I realize now I have been defaulting to that script with the contemporary GOP that you see where a group has been taken hostage by an armed militant. “Sir step away from the ledge. Calm down. We can talk about this.”

We are in a time machine back to the 1930's Germany.

People so admire a crazy demagogue. Not smart. People just "eat it up"

Until they are eaten up.

This was their plan, disrupt the world order so they can consolidate power. Their goal is permanent power in the US and this insanity is how they think they can get it. Trump is a chaos agent and his mishandling of Iran is cover for a lot of MAGA's goals.

The average Republican in Congress no longer believes in our Democracy, Trump's insanity is a means to an end, the only misgivings they have about it are how it makes their re-election chances more daunting. These people would make America a brutal dictatorship is one action if they could, they're looking to make the US look a lot like Russia currently looks.

Dems often talk about Repugs making fun of Dump in private as they suck up to him in person.

Yet (at least where I live) there seems to be a lot of cheering him on. On my Nextdoor yesterday there was lots of “God Bless President Trump”. It was really puke inducing. I know, it’s Nextdoor ….

...taken over by people that have been successfully convinced that government is the problem with and not the solution to the world's ills--especially where it seeks to end racism, misogyny, and injustice; things they actually embrace as good things that they are entitled to.

They celebrate this destruction they are bringing upon our country and our culture.

How will we ever be able to reconcile this division?

I've been on DU for over 25 years, I think, saying exactly this.

Sad part is that we couldn't do more to stop them.

Democrats have to focus on the economy.

They're doing that now.

...and above all I hope they are talking about what Snyder is saying about Trump's attempts to frame the narrative and get away with distracting people from a botched war.

Snyder, like Heather Cox Richardson, provides perspective and encourages people to take action in whatever way they can. They don't imply you must do everything. They do say you can do something.

You can follow Timothy Snyder and Heather Cox Richardson on all the usual platforms (Facebook, etc.). To avoid posting from X, I am going to link to the Substack, but I would encourage people to follow Snyder (@TimothyDSnyder) on X because his threads address things point by point and lead the way to taking action.

Amazingly enough the staff was in today which was a pleasant surprise. After stating my concerns I said the House needs to get back to work and do their jobs. I asked when they would be in session and she told me the Capital Police had advised her not to give out his location. Nice to know. After a pause I said I wasn’t stalking him but the people need them back at work. She then said the speaker had sent out a memo saying they would be back in session the 14th. FYI.
