His firing of Noem and Bondi was damage control before the midterms because of the widespread opposition among his voters due to the tactics used by both of those cabinet members. Independents and moderates who voted for Trump disapprove of the ICE extremism and murders of harmless citizens. His base is angry over The Epstein files. He had to blame someone and make it look like he was fixing the problems.
Now he needs to "fix" the problem in Iran because his base feels betrayed by Trump for starting another Middle East war. He is stuck because Iran has him boxed in and his base wants out. Also, he now looks weak to the world because he botched the war badly. That's why I think that he will follow through on his threat to destroy Iran's civilian infrastructure. It's a twofer for his base who will see the bombings as a show of strength and power and it will make them happy that it is his parting shot as he leaves Iran. (He can, and probably will, go back to Iran after the midterms because he still wants their oil.)
He can do the infrastructure bombing with impunity and he knows it. Nobody will hold him accountable.

(26,109 posts)Also, he wants to someday get back to Iran and go inside the country in order to control their oil. Supposedly he also wants to be able to get their enriched uranium. He won't be able to do that if he contaminates the land with radioactivity.
He will get sadistic satisfaction out of knowing that they will have no fresh water to drink, no electricity for lighting or AC to cool off. No radio, TV, computer systems for their businesses.
But the upper echelon in Iran will have underground bunkers and generators. Don't know what they will do for water, but they probably have some supplies of it stored somewhere. It's the common, ordinary citizens who will be hurt the most. They will die of thirst and heat exhaustion. People on ventilators and babies in incubators will die. Without fuel to cook with people will survive on raw food, but won't be able to safely eat raw meat. Unable to wash anything, they will suffer from diseases.
People who need emergency surgery will not get it and will die.
Trump will end up murdering thousands more people than the Ayatollah's regime killed.
Hopefully, other nations will provide emergency aid and be able to save some people.
During the bombing, we will lose more planes and pilots.
And in the end, there will still be mines in Hormuz, making it dangerous to travel until cleared by mine sweepers. Houthis will still be able to attack US ships and bases.
But, Trump will be able to stage a false flag terrorist attack in the US, claim it came from a sleeper cell of Iranians in the country, and declare martial law, so he can turn the US into a police state with himself as dictator.
Timothy Snyder has been warning about the use of the Iran War by Trump and his cabal in in order to establish a dictatorship. He has been warning about the possibility of a false flag operation related to Iran.

(4,328 posts)... the mask of propriety and basic human decency to reveal the psychotic monster he has always been. He revels in savagery and depravity, and he's proud of it. He has single-handedly destroyed America's reputation for generations to come, and the fact that we allowed someone so vile to become the most powerful person on the planet won't be forgotten or forgiven for a long, long time. And, it breaks my heart to admit, deservedly so. We have a lot to live down, and even more to live up to, so we'd best get busy.
