My dad, who passed away over 20 years ago, was a WW2 vet. He was in the Army and stationed in the Pacific where most of his time was spent on Guam and other islands. He was proud of his service but was reluctant to talk about the worst of what he experienced. Throughout his life he had a loathing of the Republican Party. From the earliest time I can remember, he often reminded us that Republicans only care about the rich and any working person who votes for the GOP is voting against their own best interests. He wasnt an educated man, only made it to the 8th grade, but he had a keen political awareness that stayed with him until he passed away. Im so glad he isnt around to see what we have to wake up to every morning, it would destroy him. He detested Bush with a passion, his hatred of the orange felon would be boundless.

(7,397 posts)He was a relentless wonk. He hated the orange one. He was the first person I heard way that HRC's emails would be the leverage orange one used to win in 2016 but he fortunately didn't witness it. He raised a multigenerational family of devout dems...and loved to brag about it.
He loathed the republican party...no surprise having lived most his life in Chicago. He used to say he didn't understand how anybody with a mother, a wife, or a daughter could vote republican. A staunch feminist every day I remember (and if you met my mom you'd know why...lol). An orphan whose paperwork might night pass ICE muster and certainly wouldn't pass the SAVE act, even though he never (ever) missed an election, even the local off cycles with a single issue on the ballot.
He would be heartbroken to see what's going on today and my hope is that I outlive the damage this asshat has created just to line his pockets and fuel his narcissistic needs.
