The nuclear option. Trump will go there
I listened to a former military analyst who had called in to the Thom Hartman program yesterday. He was making the case for why Trump would not use Nukes in Iran. He made a very well reasoned case based on existing nuclear war doctrines. But his argument fell apart in the very first paragraph when he said, ‘Trump won’t go nuclear because it makes no sense.”
Almost nothing that Trump has done makes sense to anyone trying to understand his actions based on logic, accepted mores, or ideology. He’s a self absorbed old man whose cognitive abilities are declining fast.
Somewhere in that lizard brain he knows he’s a goner. He knows he will die soon. He’s probably aware of how fast his body and mind are declining. He hates the job. He knows there is no easy exit. He only likes the power the Presidency gives him. He especially likes the power to screw his enemies. He is particularly pissed off that people around the world are seeing him as the loser in the Iran conflict. As he sees the American public and the whole world turn against him we all become his enemies.
Somewhere in that evil lizard brain of his he thinks it will be funny and fitting to use the ultimate power at his disposal, nuclear weapons. Doing so will be a giant fuck you to everyone who ever looked down on him, or questioned him, or called him a loser. And it will guarantee that he will be famous for all time. For a guy like Trump, that looks like winning.
Trump will order the use of nuclear weapons. Will the people who can stop him do it?
