Automatic registration for the military draft enacted without any hearings, debate, or public awareness.

The {Selective Service System (SSS)} is a tiny agency being given unprecedented authority to demand access to data from all other Federal agencies. The attempt to register potential draftees automatically will be a large, complex exercise in data collection, data sharing, and data matching between the SSS and other agencies.

The Privacy Act of 1974 requires each Federal agency to publish a notice in the Federal Register (with an opportunity for public comment) including specific information about each of system of records about U.S. citizens or residents. ... Automatic registration will require new sources of registration data from other agencies and therefore a revised Privacy Act notice.
Even before {going through the required rule-making process}, the SSS gave DOGE access to the registration database in early 2025, and in late 2025 proposed sharing its registration data with more other agencies for immigration enforcement and other purposes.

It's going to be a lot harder to escape being drafted to fight corrupt wars than it was during the Viet Nam era. (But if you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear from surveilance, right??)

Again, the proposal for automatic draft registration was drafted during the Biden Admin. and has been supported by at least some Dem congress members.
I hope it's not impossible to stop this, but if you're counting on the midterms alone to do so, we're probably going to have to elect a lot more very progressive Dems.

(11,846 posts)Knowlege is power, once consolidated from all the various agencies we've given our data to, not to mention that fact that some agencies such as police, FBI, et al. routinely obtain our data from social media platforms, there will be almost nothing they don't know about us. And TPTB are almost never forego opportunities to accumulate more power over the rest of us.
Remember, too, that debanking has also already been used in a number of situations. How long could you run your business, your household, your car without using credit cards and without access to your deposits or investments, but just using the physical cash in your mattress, or BTC held in a hard wallet?
