Why did US Iran talks break down? Here are some possibilities.
Maybe sending Larry, Moe, and Curly as our negotiating team was not such a good idea.
Maybe it wasnt so smart for JD Vance (not is real name) to stand on the tarmac in Hungary before flying to Pakistan and call the Iranians STUPID.
Or remember back last week when the ceasefire was announced and Iran announced they were thinking about charging $2 million per ship to transit the Strait and Trump popped up and proposed that we split the $2 million? Maybe that did not go over well in Tehran.
Oh, well elect a clown, get a circus.
Other input is welcome.

(24,287 posts)The US will beg Iran to get back into the Obama nuclear deal and Iran will say no. Then a much weaker deal will be struck that Trump will pretend is the greatest and strongest deal ever.

(130,740 posts)under the Constitution except to step in if the president is incapacitated*, a dim bulb of a real estate developer who doesn't even work for the government, and the president's oily son-in-law whose entire goal is to arrange grifting opportunities for the Trump family, might have been considered by the Iranians to have been unserious at best and insulting at worst. It doesn't help that Vance's whole attitude all the time toward everyone is one of sneering, smug condescension. Don't normal administrations send teams from the State Department, one of whose actual functions is negotiating treaties? Where was Little Marco?
*The president is, of course, incapacitated, but not officially. Yet.

(26,287 posts)Ceasefire, which is another word for surrender. He then declared Iran's totally non-workable 10 point plan a basis for negotiation for an end to the war. Trump also declared disinterest in if the Strait was open or closed and even suggested he might be open to tolling the Strait with Iran...
Then, he sent his team to negotiate his terms to the Iranians. His terms contained none of Iran's ten points, and now he cares about the Strait being open...
And somehow this strategy failed. Amazing.
