A Sunday morning diversion: scriptwriting this era

It has been often-repeated that if someone had written a novel or a script for a film twenty years ago which chronicled in advance the events since 2015, the manuscript or treatment would have been tossed into the wastebin in a few short minutes. We now know that this would have been another monumental mistake made by editors or producers. (Kudos to Lucille Ball for greenlighting a script that no one else wanted to produce and would have met this unfortunate fate: that of Star Trek -consider that for a moment)

But please allow me to relate my version of the ultimate plot theory: the hidden cognoscenti of the Democratic Party realistically understood that roughly one-third of Americans would always be, for whatever reasons, against the ideals of the progressive ideals promulgated by the Party. This is permanent and inescapable. So a brilliant plan was hatched.

Political friends and acquaintances of Trump surreptitiously placed the idea in his limited brain that he could ascend to the Presidency- this included Bill and Hillary Clinton on several occasions. In concert with NBC, a show was developed which could create for a national audience a vision of a competent, brash, no-holds-barred CEO who tolerated no incompetence, disrespect, or disloyalty.

Once the wheel began turning, the inertia took hold and he steamrolled the weak Republican field who literally smiled as Trump ridiculed them to their faces. He represented a group who felt that they had been forgotten by the rich and powerful who, in the former’s opinion, cared only for the rights of minorities and other oppressed groups. Thus the victim playing to the victims.

Certain psychological tropes were applied: the notion of negating by stating “fake news” for any statement that countered any of the principles; the notion that caucasian males were being displaced by illegal aliens, by less-qualified minorities, and by the international business cartels; the debasement of civil respect, debating, and rights.

And he “won” the election for these people, for their taking back of America from the “usurpers”.

What the Democratic cognoscenti understood was that they were playing the long game: they were fully aware of his narcissism, his ignorance of all things, his organic brain issues (obvious to any seasoned clinician long before 2015), his general ability to fail due to all these factors plus his prison of absolute denial coupled with his inability to stop lying. They knew he was going to ultimately ruin himself and thus, the movement for a great length of time.

He did not disappoint. It was essentially predictable that everything and everyone he touched would be and was turned into you-know-what. The list is too long to enumerate.

We are witnessing a spring-back of enormous proportions. Nearly every special election since 2024 has either been victorious for Democrats or have demonstrated a huge diminution of winning margin compared to Two years ago. There are no effective Republican leaders for their Presidential nomination because they have all, to a man and woman, been subservient to their appointed Fuhrer of their Party. They all look weak, ineffective, and enslaved to this very flawed individual.

Yes, it has been a terribly oppressive time, many have suffered and died but it can be rationalized as the wages of war which began with Gingrich and Limbaugh declaring the war upon the political process, the unified entity which was the USA at that time. It is a 12-15 year war so far but if we emerge with some degree of understanding of the sanctity of the individual, then it may be worth it.

The story is still being written: my guess is as good as anyone else’s how this will finish before the end credits roll, but it’d be a terrific Netflix series in 60 parts. Stay tuned and don’t touch that dial!

“Pie in the sky”?

Man, I really, really want you to be right, but at this point I’m not gonna try to kick that football again. Lucy just gon’ do what she always does.

I keep waiting for TX to turn blue. Don’t think that’s going to happen, and we spend a ton of attention on that.

I keep waiting for people like Abbot or Cruz to lose their elections. They never do, it’s never even really close, but it should have been a landslide for our side, right? Where’s Beto?

I keep waiting for some of the guard rails in our system to keep SCOTUS impartial. That sure went well for us.

Or to keep government assassins accountable when they kill American citizens. Alex and Renee would like a word.

I keep waiting for the stock market to make some sense at all out of where we really are and drop like a brick. Nope, keeps responding to tweets from the ultimate “boy who cried “wolf” “.

It’s a good thing I don’t have any influence whatsoever. Impotence is its own power in a way. I get to sit back and watch this entire shit show, knowing there isn’t a damned thing I can do about it. It is some grand drama, you’re right about that.

And I do hope you’re right, and I’m wrong about where this is all headed.

Cheers, I always enjoy your posts PC.

Just a few random thoughts about “fictionalizing” this nightmare. Not asserting that it’s true by any means.
