(40,034 posts)Eric Swalwell drops bid for California governor after sexual misconduct allegations
The Democratic candidate faced immediate calls to end his campaign, with many supporters withdrawing their endorsements.

Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell on Sunday dropped his bid for governor of California days after a former aide accused him of sexually assaulting her.
"I am suspending my campaign for Governor," Swalwell said in a post on X. "To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment Ive made in my past. I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made but thats my fight, not a campaigns."
His statement follows a torrent of criticism from both sides of the aisle following a San Francisco Chronicle article published Friday in which the former staffer alleged she had sexual encounters with the congressman while working in his office and that he sexually assaulted her twice while she was too intoxicated to consent. NBC News has not verified her allegations but confirmed her identity and that she worked for Swalwell from 2019 until 2021.

But Steyer is the one gaining support.

(18,687 posts)... Swalwell's political capabilities are above average and he is a decent fighter for the Blue cause.
But his libido seems to have gotten the worst of him. He needs to go back to square one and somehow get past this issue with his family.
Wish him luck in that difficult journey.

I wish justice for the accusers and for the accused. This is completely independent of politics at this point.

(18,687 posts)If the perp can not satisfy his sexual addiction that is driven by his libido. Then the perp may resort to deception, drugging, and even physically forcing his victim to attain the sex he so craves. To me it seem this is a sexual libido run askue and run amok.
May be I am wrong ?
If Swalwell is indeed guilty of this - he has left many victims in his present and in his past to atone - if they will permit him so. Both the victims of his highly inappropriate sexual desires and encounters - but he also victimized his family too.
Again, provided these accusations prove accurate and true.

(38,696 posts)Rapists may get a sexual kick from forcing the victim to submit - but at its core rape is about anger or power. Rape is not a way of satisfying a sexual addiction. (It might be a way of satisfying a power addiction - think Trump - but it has little to do with libido.)

Sexual improprieties are more along the lines of crossing norms and being selfish.
I don't know, your statement is quite powerful and it is uncomfortable to reflect upon.
