Boston, when I was growing up, was heavily Catholic. Mostly Italian and Irish Catholics.
Anyway, whenever we wanted to insult a guy who couldn't get along with hardly anyone, we would say, "he's such an asshole, he'd argue with the Pope." I always thought that was hyperbole. I guess it's not.
