So let me get this straight...

republicans are thrilled at the prospect of spending $1 billion toward this ballroom obscenity, but are against:

More funding for SNAP
More funding for Medicaid
Broader student loan forgiveness and more affordable repayment plans
Rent subsidies (Section 8 vouchers, etc.)

There has never been and never will be a more despicable bunch of bastards in Congress.

I don't even know what word IS strong enough for that crowd. I think I have a pretty darn good vocabulary, but no word I can imagine fully expresses the SEEETHING hatred I have for the basturds.

As long as they can convince their Archie Bunkers that "this mostly hurts them minorities," they'll continue to applaud it - ballroom, obscene corruption and all.

And if it hurts some Republicans too? Meh. You make an omelet, you break a few eggs.

so they could be richer while their steel workers worked ridiculous hours and tens of thousands died or were disabled from unsafe conditions.

What turned things around was New York robber barons who wanted Teddy Roosevelt out of the governorship convinced McKinley to take him on as VP, where they thought Teddy would have no power. But for McKinley's assassination, we might have been in this place more than a hundred years ago. His Progressive Era gave us trust-busting, regulation of food industry, preservation of vast natural areas, labor protections including the 8 hour work day, inheritance taxes....

His presidency was a miracle without which our country would be a very different place.

Only 20% or so want the ballroom? Do they really think gerrymandering will help them when even Republicans will decide to vote for someone else or not vote at all?

Shortly after the East Wing was demolished.

A right wing Christian Nationalist woman who is part of an affinity group I'm in posted that Obama had done the same with his basketball court.

She was gently corrected, then she doubled down and brought in reinforcements, and they were all not so gently corrected.

In one exchange it was noted that the price for this could feed and house a lot of poor people. This right wing Christian who spends time supposedly helping poor women posted "the poor will always be with us but we deserve opulence in the USA, like Saudi Arabia."

I checked their social history (open to the public) and it was full of gross racist AI memes featuring Barack and Michelle Obama.

There is no reasoning with these people. They pretend to be nice but they are followers of greed and evil. They betray their supposed Christianity. They're not following Jesus. They're following something else and calling it Jesus.

The experience has kind of haunted and upset me. There are millions like this.
