1. This has been the folly the whole time

Iran and the US can't negotiate an end to Israel's wars without Israel being at the table too. And Iran has always demanded that Israel stop their attacks on Lebanon as part of this deal. I think Trump thinks this is a real estate deal and he can just humor Iran on Israel and hammer out the rest of the details until leaving the one to the intend which they can just punt to a later date.

And the thing is, the US can't control what Israel does anyways, so what's the point?

If Trump had kept his distance and allowed all of this to be on Netanyahu, then the shoe would be on the other foot.

We'd hear things like, "We don't know their real ages", "Where were their parents and what were these teens doing partying with full grown adults?" and "Trump was probably told they were 18, how was he supposed to know? He wasn't checking IDs."

But if it was a little boy or two, they would lose it, because they can't imagine Trump being into gay sex as macho as they think he is.
