House Passes Sandy Bill--67 vote against it. (edit: list of "NO" votes with full name and state)

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/01/04/168612212/house-passes-sandy-aid-bill

Would love a list of the 67 who voted against it. Jerks.

On Edit: Paul Ryan voted against it:

No votes included Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), the House Budget Committee chairman and former vice presidential candidate. who said after the vote that Washington should not be creating new debt.

"This legislation proposes to increase the program's borrowing authority by $9.7 billion," he said. "It would be irresponsible to raise an insolvent program's debt ceiling without making the necessary reforms."

I still think it's lack of information. If Fox Snooze was held to some kind of truth, if the media in general had to give a complete picture, these guys would have less chance of getting re-elected. They redistricted our district. We have few metro area voters and mostly rural, horsey country/farms outside the traditional collar counties of Chicago. The DEMs poured money into the other districts and to my knowledge, nothing for the very nice man running against this guy. With better funding, I think we would have had a chance. As it was, Dennis Anderson had a pretty good voter turn out despite the lack of moneyed support. Just not enough people knew about him or knew the Hultgren was nothing more than hot air and several cells short of a full brain.

But they are too stupid to understand the meaning of their no vote.

They all better hope that when the next natural disaster occurs in their district that the folks from the Northeast will show them more compassion. That includes you, Li'l Paul. Wisconsin NEVER experiences floods or tornadoes or anything like that, do they? Li'l Paul has never sought federal help for his district for anything ... yeah, right.

This little story is old and most people here heard about it,but it's worth reminding ourselves what a heartless, selfish punk Ryan is.Only link i could find with a short version.

During a recent rotary club luncheon where Paul Ryan was speaking, 71 year old Tom Neilson stood up to protest Ryan’s plans to gut Medicare and Social Security. Paul Ryan is currently U.S. Representative for Wisconsin’s first congressional district. He was recently named Mitt Romney’s running mate for the 2012 elections.

Tom Neilson a 71 year old retiree became obviously upset by Ryan’s plan to leave him without a future. He stood up to ask a question and was immediately surrounded by guards who strong armed him out of the room. While Mr. Neilson was being taken to the ground by several men Ryan decided to crack a joke, “I hope he took his high blood pressure medicine”.

Normally this examiner reports the news without bias or opinion. In this case however this examiner is both shocked and appalled by Ryan’s actions. The idea that this man could become our next Vice President both sickens and disgusts me.

If Kansas has a ton of tornadoes this year. The storms have been moving in that direction out of Oklahoma the past couple of years. We are pretty weather aware down here in Oklahoma for good reason. It amazes me the people who live in places where natural disasters happen yearly can vote against this!

This was money to pay flood insurance claims--coverage the homeowners PAID for!!!!

What they voted on was just a $9.7 billion bill to pay flood insurance claims from Hurricane Sandy. It only extends the borrowing authority of the National Flood Insurance Program, which the Federal Emergency Management Agency warned on Tuesday was set to run out of money next week without additional funds from Congress.

There is no "pork" here--just contractual obligations on the part of the National Flood Insurance Program.

It is time to stop politicizing disasters....why put ANY pork in this bill...$9 billion of the $60 billion will be spent in 2013? WTF!
I'm miffed people voted "No" but seriously, how the heck does this help our friends who are suffering?

Preparation against future storms:
$13 billion to 'mitigation' projects that prepare for future storms

VA Manhattan Medical Center
$207 million

Alaskan fisheries through NOAA:
$150 million

Military bases: Eight along the storm’s path, including Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
$41 million

Homeland Security and Justice departments for vehicles and equipment:
$8 million

Kennedy Space Center, Florida:
$4 million to repair sand berms and dunes

Plum Island Animal Disease Center, New York:
$3.3 million

Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.:
$2 million to repair museum roofs

National cemeteries:
$1.1 million for repairs

It isn't ideal, but it's the way the system has worked for a very long time. Senators and Congresspeople get trade offs in exchange for voting for a bill. They even get perks for their states when they vote against a bill, something I have never understood.

When it comes to "disaster relief" added pork is just shameful. Especially while people are suffering (many of my relatives).
Why put in anything that becomes fodder to the other side. Had there been no pork, no one would have voted no and they would have received the full relief immediately to the tune of 30B.
