Facebook

So I made a fake Facebook account so I can use marketplace.... Every now and then I look at the Facebook feed and about 75% of the time it's anti-Democratic nonsense. Black people saying why they don't understand why Black people support Democrats, more-patriotic-than-thou morons, people promoting Rubio, etc. etc. etc. I didn't put anything political in my fake account information. So I'm thinking this is probably spewed out to everyone 😲

My feed is predominantly liberal Democratic feed and memes .
But I steered it that way . Likes and x’ing ads and rightwing posts .
And I never respond to prompts from FB that asks what I like, dislike or expect.
If they can’t figure it out , im not helping them

If you so much as like a post by someone, you could start seeing things that person likes too.

A lot of times FB tries to guess what will trigger your engagement, positive or negative.

I have a fake FB account too, and it took awhile before the algorithms learned the only thing I’m interested in is music related posts.

I still see AI slop political crap in the reels section, but I guess that’s just what is trending on the whole platform. I never tap or watch any of the reels, so as not to trigger new algorithms .

If someone recommends a friend request, tell me who you are that recommends the person. One was some lady who had nothing but a name and a photo. All I could think of was follow-up messages of deep, meaningful love and financial recommendations to buy her crypto scam.

I get "people you may want to connect with" suggestions and I put as little as possible about myself. I guess anything I look at ever on there may trigger such suggestions. I gave "thumbs ups" to the people who commented negatively about the right-wing crap, so hopefully it will realize that I'm not that into that crap. This is really why I avoid those types of social media. But I really needed to unload some spring cleaning stuff and it wasn't moving on Craigslist. I've had some luck with Marketplace (buying and selling) thus far.

Scrub my cache after I search marketplace for whatever cause I feel dirty. I was going to create another one a while back but it wanted a picture of me and my ID. Did it ask you that? I removed my original FB account in 2010. Downloaded the entire thing and had them delete it. I had to do it over the phone with their support to get it done. Took forever back then to get them to do it. I mean I'm sure its sitting there on an old backup server somewhere, the internet is about as permanent as you can get. Once you enter it your footprint will be there forever or until an asteroid the size of the moon hits the Earth

ask me for an ID or picture---but it did ask for an email to verify (I have a couple "burner" emails for trash like Facebook). That alone kept me from making a fake account earlier, but I really wanted on Marketplace. I also deleted my entire original FB account that I had way back---along with any other social media (like LinkedIn). Sometimes friends would send me things that I could only open (or see comments on) in FB, so I'd always be asking someone with it to show me. For now at least, I can look at stuff with my fake account. But if it keeps annoying me, I may nuke it, too.

in 2016. He illegally provided private user information to Cambridge analytica, which enabled micro-targeted political ads in key places.

Facebook or Zuck was charged, tried, and convicted, and fined the horrifying amount of about $30,000.

Facebook account - friends and relatives. Then it is a matter of avoiding the traps and landmines, not to mention NEVER buying anything off of Facebook. A large percentage of the ads are scams.

There is no doubt that Facebook has become a troll-infested wasteland that appears to be on its last legs.

by giving him him personal info, so he can smear it all over his AI farms.

Up til about 5 or so years ago, I could look people up on zuckbook. Now there's a memberhsip barrier.

How do people get to be billionaires on "free" platforms?

If the service is free, YOU are the product.

I hear people talk about fake memberships.

could be the default agenda on Facebook until you establish your own priorities by clicking on some posts and blocking/hiding others.

I discovered this when my account got hacked a few years ago and I had to start over again from scratch. I was shocked and disturbed by the crap that was showing up in my newsfeed. The garbage is gone now and most of what I see is moderate to liberal. Still too many AI images and stories however.

Facebook has gotten worse and worse over the years and a lot of the real crap is coming out of third world countries, accounts looking for "clicks" and "comments" so they can get paid by Meta for their trashy slop.

The Facebook I use is nothing like that at all. (Full disclosure, I peruse FB on a desktop computer with a decent ad blocker, too. So the smartphone app might be different.)
