The scary problem with democracy is...

... the ignorance and short sightedness of the electorate.

What can we do about this? How can we avoid the fate of civilizations that literally killed themselves?

If you get enough people to work against it, to be apathetic to its weakening and demise, it doesn't matter how much you and I want to continue government in the democratic model.

They’ve managed to find a comfortable seat at the G7.

We’re at a turning point.

Fuck billionaires.

the Soviet government used to have 5-year plans and the communist government of China still has 5-year plans. Even India had them until 2017. I don't know how good or bad they turned out to be but no doubt they contributed to more people doing more longer-term thinking.

Would it make a difference if U.S. political parties had 5-year plans? It might contribute to more longer-term thinking but harder to enact long-term policies when so much is driven by free markets rather than a centralized government.
