(16,646 posts)And quite honestly, it doesn't look like many of her more "candid" photos.
FrenchieCat
(68,867 posts)Are what do you mean? She should look exactly like she does on a magazine cover
at all times?
zipplewrath
(16,646 posts)look at this:

for a comparison.
FrenchieCat
(68,867 posts)can you clarify?
zipplewrath
(16,646 posts)The magazine cover barely looks like the other "noncover" photos. It looks more like a "look alike" or some younger sister or something. Facial proportions are off. Skin looks different. She looks a different weight.
FrenchieCat
(68,867 posts)Yeah...cause other people look exactly the same on magazine covers as they
do in their candid photos......
It looks just like her to me.....
and some 48 year old women wish they could look as good,
skin and all.....but whatever!
Well Have a nice day anyways!

(17,656 posts)Angry. Black. Woman.
They even gots a book about how angry that black woman is.
Ooooohhh, angry black woman.
When someone asks who you are going to vote for . . .
say "Obama" . . like this little feller --->

(28,347 posts)That gorgeous hunk she's married to - I hope he sings to her.
He can sing to me any day
I've been trying to download him all day for my ringtone, but I can't get it to work.

(16,646 posts)Color wise yes, but also a bit thinner. He jaw looks a tad "thinner" than in other photos. I suspect its the camera lens they used. Quite honestly, I like her "candid" look better. Never was a fan of the "over made up" look, nor the china doll schtick.

(16,646 posts)Really, I'm curious how you get such a conclusion from anything that I wrote? Do you not understand the concept of similie or metaphor?
FrenchieCat
(68,867 posts)Guess that you've decided that a woman of her age, and who is neither
a professional model or an actress made to look younger via surgery and injection
is supposed to somehow look like the cover of a magazine at all times, including
when taking candid photos.
Even young women who are models and acting celebrities do not walk around looking
like their magazine covers.
Just the mere fact that you would have commented in that way, in this thread, gives us
a better view as to the type of individual that you are, in particular when it comes to this woman.
I thank you for that.
zipplewrath
(16,646 posts)Try again.
The original post mentioned the superficiality. I was agreeing with that term. There is something fundamentally superficial about photographing someone to look like they don't look. Even more so to make them temporarily appear to be some approximation of a false "ideal".
She's a good looking woman in her own right. It seems horribly supeficial to make her appear "differently" merely to conform to some ideal of what she "should" look like.
As far as your suppositions. The reason that scientists do double blind studies is because it is very easy to find what you're looking for, even when it's not there.
Your suppositions, and your supposed "better views" give us more insight into you, and what you are looking for, than anything about me.
FrenchieCat
(68,867 posts)justify your critique of a photo.....
and beyond that, the fact that you are
a consistent harsh critic of The Obama administration
in general says to me, that there really are times when
if you don't have anything good to say,
then saying nothing is a great option, if for no other reason,
to demonstrate goodwill, and a lack of pettiness...
Some people learned that from their parents...
it's called home trainin'- http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=home%20trainin%27
.
zipplewrath
(16,646 posts)It is a discussion forum after all. And my original comment was based upon the OP's comment about the superficiality. Basically I was agreeing. It is superficial. It's almost the poster child for superficial. Take a perfectly good looking woman and make her look like something she isn't. The impled reason being that what she is isn't some how "good enough".

Guess I didn't read your meaning correctly.
Sid
so now the Obama haters are actually picking on pictures of the first lady?
man, and I thought Bush hatred was bad!
They were commenting upon the original posters "superficial" observation.
But keep looking for trouble where it doesn't exist, I'm sure you can find it if you try hard enough.

(9,854 posts)I know I have gained and lost 20 pounds like four times in the last four years. I guess Mrs. Obama could have, too. Plus, I think they have lighting, etc, in magazine cover photo shoots that are not readily available for candid shots. Hence, the 'candidness'.
zipplewrath
(16,646 posts)And I suspect they used a wide angle lens too, it can change the apparent proportions of things in depth rather quickly. There's a definite "cover photo" aspect to the whole thing.
FrenchieCat
(68,867 posts)But keep digging, as a picture of you is coming that much more in focus
to some of us the more you post in this thread.
zipplewrath
(16,646 posts)Makes it real superficial doesn't it?

We are so lucky to have her as FLOTUS. And Obama is lucky to have her as his partner!

Might as well!
zipplewrath
(16,646 posts)I suspect, a bit like the Clinton cover photo (and a similar Coulter cover), that a very wide angle lens was being used, which changes proportions between very small differences in depth.
progressoid
(49,991 posts)even though the wide angle lens makes her arms look a little big
And thank God they didn't go overboard with PhotoShop. She's too beautiful for that.

(15,943 posts)Perhaps some people here will think that, but I think discussing such topics as self-doubt, early struggles, and wanting to help build self confidence in young girls. I hold her in the highest Light for wanting to be a role model, even though I'm usually not someone who has role models in my own life.
FrenchieCat
(68,867 posts)because of course, you are totally correct!

(31,828 posts)It simply is not superficial. What's wrong with have a beautiful black woman on the cover of a magazine who happens to hold ADVANCED degrees, is very accomplished and as an aside? Is married to the President of the United States of America? I'd rather see her - than Rihanna on the cover of a magazine. But that's me.
dawg
(10,624 posts)is the fact that she's just so darn pretty!
But I have always been able to appreciate a woman for her mind *and* her looks.

(72,790 posts)I think she's done wonderful things as First Lady. I think she's very good in the role. From everything I know, I believe she is a very good wife and mother and, at the end of the day, that's what matters most.
And she's kind of sexy too.

(25,485 posts)to be honest - but she has really grown on me. I have been won over by her poise, and grace. She looks flawless - always. We are very blessed to have this gorgeous family in the White House, and to be able to witness in our lifetime.
