I am ill today and since my soaps are gone, my TV has been on MSNBC all day. Over all, they have a pretty good line up but I really don't care for Dylan Ratigan.
What is his appeal?

(8,760 posts)and he expends a lot of intellectual energy trying to convince himself that the blams is equal between the two parties.

I don't care for him, but I can see why people might watch him.

(30,745 posts)I like Martin Bashir. I like the way he won't allow his repubbie guests to lie about Democrats. He confronts them when he catches them lying. He asks them to back up what they are saying, and he will not back down. He makes them back down first.
Ratigan? He yells too much for me. I don't like the ones who yell. It gets old really fast.
I am not sure I understand Ratigan's politics. Is he a libertarian? I can't always tell with him.

(6,960 posts)There is no one on 'news' television who is more of an advocate for reversing 'Citizens United' than Ratigan.
He is one of the loudest advocates for genuine health care reform -- he argues for cost controls and affordable universal coverage. He is a constant critic of the current health insurance industry. (Far more progressive than, well, you know who.)
I've heard no one on cable/satellite television who better understands and talks about our energy and transportation problems.
He is an preacher for real, genuine reform of our banking system -- he is a consistent advocate on his program for investigating and prosecuting those responsible for the Crash of 2008.
This all means that he is often critical of Pres. Obama ... big surprise since Timmy Geithner is still the Secretary of the Treasury and the President is still surrounded by Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, etc. flunkies.
What is his appeal? He tends to be non-partisan and will interview Repuglicans and Democrats if they have good ideas to really change our economy.
Ratigan is not a dogmatist and he is actually knowledgable about how the economy works.
So, since he is not a down-the-line Democrat like Schultz or Sharpton or Maddow, well, he takes hits here.

(13,062 posts)if that works for Howard Stern, I guess it works for Dylan Ratigan, too.

(20,043 posts)I rarely leave him on. He seems sharp when discussing the financial meltdown, but I care very little for his over the top style. He also seems determined to blame both parties equally, he seems very libertarian to me.

He is one of the few speakers of truth to power (not always perfect) on the eminently dodgy MSNBC.
