Nothing Trump revealed in his speech comes anywhere close to his own treasonous attempts to thwart our elections

...including his efforts last night.

Trump produced no evidence that any foreign entity, in any way, manipulated votes or registration records; nothing which would change the outcome of the 2020 election.

U.S. intel collectively concluded, in a bipartisan report, that that no foreign governments controlled voting equipment or manipulated vote totals, including conspiracists' favs, Venezuela and China. The claims he made about Venezuela were about their efforts in Venezuelan elections, not in the U.S.; and China bought voter info that's available for free to any American at any time, and Trump called that espionage.

Despite saying early in the speech that he wasn't trying to discourage anyone from the polls, he looked to be laying the groundwork to try just that by inflating the foreign threat to possibly declare some kind of national emergency in which his federal agents would then seize certain states and localities' ballots or voting machines and breaking the chain of confidence in the tallies.

There's also the prospect of sending ICE to the polls to defend against the overinflated threat from undocumented immigrants they say registered to vote; producing no more evidence that they actually voted than they have by showing us a handful of 'red' state voter rolls and complaining that 'Democrat' state didn't fork over their voter info to the president who was convicted of fraudulent conduct in connection with a previous election.

Think about the hyper-concern about protecting the vote coming from the president and administration which dismantled so many of the protections against the things Trump was gaslighting Americans about last night.

...from the Brennan Center:

Between January and August 2025, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence had already slashed more than 500 staff members — roughly 30 percent of its workforce — when then-Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced that the agency would eliminate additional positions and scale back the Foreign Malign Influence Center, responsible for tracking foreign disinformation campaigns. The office had uncovered influence operations in prior elections, including an Iran-backed effort targeting Trump. The national intelligence office has since reassigned many of the center’s duties to other offices, resulting in fragmentation.

Early in the second Trump administration, meanwhile, the FBI quietly shuttered a task force dedicated to investigating foreign deception operations and sharing information with state and local officials and social media companies. The first Trump administration had created the task force after Russia’s attempts to influence the 2016 election.

The current administration has also shed staff at the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency who focused on foreign disinformation. The agency, which coordinates and advises on the security of election infrastructure as well as of other critical infrastructure sectors, has lost about a third of its workforce, and hundreds more positions have been reassigned. (Trump’s newest budget proposal would further shrink the agency.) Reportedly among the positions jettisoned were more than a dozen Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency staffers who monitored foreign disinformation campaigns in elections. Meanwhile, the State Department closed the Global Engagement Center, another group established to coordinate responses to foreign propaganda and misinformation from Russia, China, and Iran. (That center is not focused exclusively on election falsehoods).

The dismantled teams, slashed staff, and reduced expertise mean that the federal government is underprepared to respond in an election cycle where Iran, China, and Russia are especially incentivized to try to influence results.

And consider this as you reflect on the absolutely banal gaslighting about China buying voter info that's already public and readily available. As part of Trump’s efforts to expand federal control over the country’s historically state-run election infrastructure, his DOJ is presently demanding copies of states’ complete voter registration lists, including voters’ highly sensitive data like birthdates, partial Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers.

The foreign actors he's warning against may well have taken advantage of his own deliberate fecklessness in giving attention to forces Trump believes to be against him in that election, or don't like him as he whined like a baby last night; or his acquiescence to those who opposed Biden.

But the very reports he's citing - the intel reports he was made aware of, despite claiming that 'deep-state' agents kept something or the other from him - say that China did not launch any large scale effort to influence the 2020 election, nor did any other country.

The ONLY evidence of any significant effort to defraud that election was in HIS OWN 34-COUNT INDICTMENT for his attempted defrauding that election, including his incitement of his supporters to assault the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to halt the certification by Congress of votes already cast.

Nothing Trump revealed in his speech comes anywhere close to his own treasonous attempts to thwart democracy in our elections; including his efforts last night.

...coming from a man whose own illegal actions represent the largest threat to our system of voting and election in our nation's history.

He's the most pernicious threat, by far.

...the most prevalent and pernicious threat America has faced since the Cold War, but we had the country and our government mobilizing against that threat in the past.

We're all dissident now, subject to the attempted overthrow of democracy and our system of government by one president and his acquiescing party in functional control of all branches of government with the Supreme Court's maga majority determined to legislate every Democratic-derived law or initiative from the bench in favor of their republican benefactors.

Courts without any actual enforcement mechanism, and states being actively intimidated out of their own sovereignty and right to hold elections on their own volition according to their constitutional primacy in those elections, and any power the federal government having over those being delegated by Congress and not inherent in the Executive's authority to control.

The real outrage is that this president is feigning diligence to the law while working to control and engineer a partisan election outcome favorable to him and his political party - right out in the open, assuming we're virtually powerless to stop him.

I think there are a lot of questions about just how WE stop a president and party in the majority determined to subjugate the minority to their corrupt hold on power. Most of depends on the integrity of members of a party who haven't yet demonstrated any.

I get that the courts will say no to something like a declaration of a national emergency that intends to seize ballots or voting machine. But, I'm not sure what will happen next if the president decides to ignore them.

If you read the actual intel reports on election interference, and you watch Trump's speech, you will come to an obvious conclusion: Trump is he main threat to our elections

Bulwark: The Real Threat to Our Elections Is Donald Trump
And it has been for years.

Sam Stein: The Call Is Coming from Inside the White House

__The president spread false and inflated claims about China’s covert efforts to undermine his 2020 bid. He bemoaned alleged compromises of our voting systems, specifically Venezuela’s supposed manipulation of electronic voting machines. And he undermined confidence in our election processes by comparing them unfavorably to “any” third-world country.

“Great damage has been done to our country. Our elections were left vulnerable to being rigged and stolen, and the trust of the American people was lost,” Trump proclaimed, surely aware at some psychological level that he is the one who destroyed that trust, and was doing so again as he spoke that line.

Over and over, Trump has sowed doubt in our elections, treating them not as a bedrock of our government but as a grade that could be appealed, forged, or changed through sufficient whining or cheating. After he lost the 2016 Iowa caucus, Trump declared that, “Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz . . . either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified.” I vaguely recall being flabbergasted at the time. I thought it was a bit. I didn’t realize it was an ethos.

And now it’s a doctrine—pushed by Trump but actively embraced by the rest of his party. Hours before Trump spoke last night, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) claimed four or five of his colleagues in the Senate “didn’t legally win” office. He had no evidence for his claim. Earlier this week, DNI nominee Jay Clayton refused to say that Joe Biden won the 2020 election. He’s considered the sane alternative to the man currently in that post, Bill Pulte.

That these top officials feel free, even compelled, to act like this is a greater problem facing our elections than anything we’ve seen so far from a foreign adversary. Because if one party will not accept results that don’t go its way, then there is nothing to “fix” at all. At that point, the election’s legitimacy is tied strictly to its outcome, not its administration.
