There is no such thing as “a few key states” in this election, as republicans are crossing over and voting for democrats is solid red districts.

In many states, the votes are tabulated as they are cast , but the results aren’t released until after the polls close.

I’m talking about after you have marked your physical ballot, you walk over and feed it into a machine where it is scanned and the hard copy is stored. When the polls close, those tabulator records are downloaded to a central computer and compiled, at least in some states.

It’s really important to think through all the necessary steps for one’s dystopian fantasies to actually occur in the real world, lest the reader be exposed to misinformation and needless fearmongering.
