ICE detention center employee tried to murder a protestor

Denver --

Things here in Colorado have been at a boiling point for awhile when it comes to ICE. The Aurora facility has been the target of mass protests for months now. And now we have GEO Group workers for ICE trying to literally murder protestors. Thank goodness for Aurora police (You'll NEVER read me saying that again given how God awful bad they are. Remember Elijah McClain?) who arrested this jackass on 2nd degree attempted murder charges.

Abolish ICE!

NEW: Aurora Police say an ICE detention center employee shot a protester last night. She is expected to survive.

42-year-old Brandon Booth, who works for the ICE contractor GEO Group, is being held on suspicion of attempted second degree murder and other charges.

If they overcharge and go for first degree, it might result in an acquittal because proving premeditation beyond a reasonable doubt requires documents, evidence of planning and intent, etc.

Second-degree is a much more reasonable charge since it's the "crime of passion" level where someone loses control due to overwhelming emotion and "snaps". That fits the events much better than premeditation since they had an argument, words were exchanged, etc., and then he retrieved the weapon and fired.

I'd rather see him convicted of a lesser charge than have the prosecution overreach and fail to prove a more severe charge.

Aurora police said that just before the shooting, Booth was “waiting in his vehicle along Nome St. with other employees due to the protest impeding their ability to gain access to the facility.” A verbal confrontation between Booth and two demonstrators ensued, after which the two women began walking away.

“At that point, Booth retrieved his personally owned pistol and fired a single shot in their direction, striking one of the women on her lower body,” said the APD release. “Booth then got into his vehicle and drove out of the area before he was detained.”

“This is a tragedy on all fronts, and the Aurora Police Department will investigate this incident with the same commitment to transparency and integrity as we do all shootings,” Aurora Chief of Police Todd Chamberlain said in a statement. “We remain committed to ensuring an ethical, thorough, objective, and comprehensive review of this case. Violence of any kind will not be tolerated in Aurora. Constitutional rights are a pivotal part of a just society — violence is not.”

isn't that premeditated?
Well, if they can get him easier on 2nd degree then go for that.

And yes, I remember Elliajah McClain.

among (if not THE) very best.

But, yes. Good on Aurora police for doing the right thing here. Given this is a private employee and not a Federal ICE Agent, it is a different story on that score, however.

The Reich Wing's privatized private army in action.

I wonder what his job title in the concentration camp was? Rapist first class? Torturer Interrogator?

Sue GEO group for billions, put them out of business, make it unprofitable to serve ICE.
