In the 80s, the Rajneeshee group established a large ashram in Oregon. In an effort to rig the local Circuit Court elections, they purposely acquired salmonella toxins and deliberately contaminated salad bars hoping to incapacitate the local voting population.
751 people contracted salmonella poisoning, luckily no-one died. Rajneesh, Ma Anand (tough titties) Sheela and others were prosecuted.
Of course, the current outbreak is probably coincidence, but it made me wonder.

I do feel like incompetence is usually a better explanation than conspiracy, especially at the current scale.
