Brace yourselves...Obama WILL cut Medicare spendingThe first is because he already has.http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2012/08/14/romneys-right-obamacare-cuts-medicare-by-716-billion-heres-how/ As we heard so much about in the recent presidential campaign, Obamacare reduced Medicare spending by $716 billion over 10 years.
And secondly, because he's promised to cut more.

Already, the reforms we passed in the health care law will reduce our deficit by $1 trillion. My approach would build on these reforms. We will reduce wasteful subsidies and erroneous payments. We will cut spending on prescription drugs by using Medicares purchasing power to drive greater efficiency and speed generic brands of medicine onto the market. We will work with governors of both parties to demand more efficiency and accountability from Medicaid.
We will change the way we pay for health care - not by the procedure or the number of days spent in a hospital, but with new incentives for doctors and hospitals to prevent injuries and improve results. And we will slow the growth of Medicare costs by strengthening an independent commission of doctors, nurses, medical experts and consumers who will look at all the evidence and recommend the best ways to reduce unnecessary spending while protecting access to the services that seniors need.

I do think it's really more productive to watch and listen to what Pelosi and Reid will allow if you want to know the ultimate outcome of these proposed cuts.

(37,365 posts)When Obama reduces spending but maintains benefits, that's bad. When the GOP increases spending but reduces benefits that's good.
OK all you Faux watching wingnut trolls, maybe that's too complex for you: Obama = bad. GOP = good.

(1,135 posts)Obamacare reducing Medicare spending by $716 billion over 10 years? That money was PORK. Hospitals and medical companies were getting much more than was necessary. But it didn't affect benefits. It actually insured benefits for another 8 years, then if it hadn't been done.
So what's your point? Other then to mislead what President Obama is actually doing.

(83,898 posts)I know we did not cut benefits. That is why I underlined the word spending.
I also highlighted the areas that again show spending cuts not benefit cuts. These areas show how great the plan really is.
I fully support the direction this President is taking us.
Misleading? No, not if you read the entire piece. There is also a lot more info at the links!
