Missouri man accused of dismembering victim, throwing arms at witnesses

A Kirksville, Mo., man is charged with murder in a case in which he allegedly dismembered his victim and threw the arms at witnesses.

Paul R. Potter, 49, is in the Adair County jail with a bail of $1 million cash after the grisly homicide late Sunday. He is charged with second-degree murder, second-degree arson and tampering with a motor vehicle.

According to the Kirksville Daily Express, police responded to reports of a car in flames shortly after 11 pm. Officers soon became aware of a disturbance at a nearby apartment and a found a second fire and the dismembered body of a dead male. Witnesses said Potter was seen leaving the burning vehicle. According to the paper, police observed him throwing objects _ later determined to be human arms _ toward witnesses.

Citing court documents, the newspaper said Potter admitted the crimes and said he had set the fires in an attempt to conceal the murder.

What an awful story! But surely the charges are odd, considering?

He was trying to conceal his crime by setting fires, but then he threw the arms of the victims at witnesses. I am going to say he missed the boat on concealing his crime.
