Consider this
Booze Makers are not against all drivers having a license...with a photo...gun nuts are against photo identification.
Booze Makers are not against age limits to use their products, gun nuts are
Booze Makers often advertise.."got a problem call..."...........gun nuts never advertise that
Gun Nuts desire no control over their product..Booze Makers do not mind strict control....
Booze Makers do not mind paying an extra tax on their product. gun nuts want to pay no extra tax.
Booze Makers and sellers will not sell to all..some places require ids for those that look over 25...gun nuts want ulimited sales.
enough?

Is somebody trying to overturn the age limits on buying guns? I haven't heard of that.

There are strict age limits on gun purchases. Additionally, most states have laws regarding that strictly regulate the use of guns by minors.

(39,171 posts)private citizens call sell the occasional gun but they cannot do it for a living nor can can they derive a significant portion of their income from such sales. That makes them gun dealers and they must be licensed by the federal government.
The term engaged in the business, as applicable to a firearms dealer, is defined as a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to dealing in firearms as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the repetitive purchase and resale of firearms, but such term shall not include a person who makes occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of firearms for the enhancement of a personal collection or for a hobby, or who sells all or part of his personal collection of firearms.

(38,427 posts)Usually after a gun is used illegally..very rarely before. It is nice indeed to quote the law..but enforcement, when where and how is the real question...for example..Near me is an expressway..and the speed limit is 55. So most 65..or near 70.. 55 is not enforced.
At gun fairs, are the above laws enforced, and by whom and when?..Yet, selling booze is often checked by sellers. A clerk can ask for a photo ID from someone who looks underage. by law..Gun sales at gun shows are clearly not closely regulated by anyone..
hack89
(39,171 posts)what easier way for law enforcement to keep track of gun sellers? Secondly, those gun dealers who have gone through the hassle and cost of getting a license take a dim view of those that sell illegally - they will drop a dime on them in a heartbeat.
And finally, many gun shows simply restrict themselves to licensed dealers.

Rethink this one - please.
BTW - how do you know booze makers aren't against all these things?

(38,427 posts)And going to a gun show and purchasing a gun anyway. Much easier they say, then getting a legal abortion in some states.
.. Buying a gun at a gun show doesn't require a "legal right" just money. What is the purpose of that "gun" that killed those kids?
To improve that person's life?
hack89
(39,171 posts)most of the sellers are dealers and therefore background checks are required. In many locations, local laws require that all gun show sales require background checks.
