The White House defended Morgan's First Amendment right to free speech regarding the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
The White House officially responded to a petition to deport Piers Morgan on Wednesday by defending the CNN anchor's right to free speech regarding the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
"Lets not let arguments over the Constitutions Second Amendment violate the spirit of its First," White House press secretary Jay Carney wrote in the response. "Americans may disagree on matters of public policy and express those disagreements vigorously, but no one should be punished by the government simply because he or she expressed a view on the Second Amendment or any other matter of public concern."
Morgan tweeted in response, "President Obama has officially decided I am NOT being deported."

(328 posts)... the First Amendment also carries with it RESPONSIBLE use of it.
It's one thing to defend the Second Amendment, but it is quite another to violate responsible use of the First Amendment to do it.
Just like that backward ass that threatened to start killing people if Obama enacts gun legislation. Why he hasn't been arrested is beyond me.

(328 posts)Is what civilized people imply.
It is what a reasonable government should expect it's governed to abide by.

(101,316 posts)Morgan had earlier said the USA needed a lot more gun control, and Jones, who doesn't like to bother with things like logic or reality, said this meant Morgan was working against the United States, and therefore ought to be deported. Morgan had him on the program because of the petition - whether he expected some kind of debate, or was confident that Jones was going to be as unhinged as he was, I don't know.

(19,981 posts)Coming from someplace without a serious gun culture, it's easy for him to see the utter insanity of the U.S., although he may not have fully grasped its rabid intensity until courageously stating the obvious on live TV. Most of the world knows the U.S. is crazy.
Good job, Piers.
