(not that I'm advocating this)
Imagine a gun show - they're packed now with attendees. Someone walks in with a ready-to-roll AR-15 and a rate of fire of 15 rounds per minute (up to a theoretical 45) and a high-capacity clip, plus maybe even some body armor. How many people can they pick off before someone takes them out?
Now imagine someone tries the same thing but with a handgun they have to reload.
Under which scenario do more people walk out of the show alive?
Because I think that no matter how you look at this, how many armed "opposers" there are is not the important factor. It's rate of fire and high capacity clips that skew the resulting death rate.

(16,974 posts)All weapons generally have bolts ziptied open. I guess they could cut one off load some magazines and then return fire. I would not think you could get past security with a magazine in a weapon like that.

On edit: Or perhaps church. Or outside a NASCAR rally. I don't friggin' know, but you get the idea.

(16,974 posts)I would never draw as there are too many innocent people that may be hit by my return fire. That is part of the training. There are too many variables to try and really get a good idea of how many casualties. How crowded? If it is to crowded that weapon would suck and I suspect he would be bumrushed pretty quick.

but the NRA position is more armed people, the safer, and you, as a responsible gun owner, is saying no way in hell you're drawing that gun with innocents all over the place. Hell, even police rarely do that (fire with lots of innocents around) - they clear the area of as many bystanders first as possible.

And no one is affronted by this assault on their second amendment rights?
