Democrats Troll Republicans With Snarky List Of Retreat “Agenda Items”
Science 101, and a math course on “how to count to 218 votes.”

WASHINGTON — House Democrats Tuesday lampooned their Republican counterparts' upcoming retreat in a tony, gated resort in scenic Williamsburg, Va, suggesting a variety of "agenda items" ranging from lobbyist funded meals to a panel on "How to stop talking about 'legitimate rape' and insulting women."

"Tea Party House Republicans have had a rough month … We have a few suggestions for House Republicans that might make their next month a little bit easier," said Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesman Jesse Ferguson in a release.

Among the "suggested" agenda items complied by the DCCC: breakfast paid for by lobbyists, "Science 101," a workshop on "How to stop talking about 'legitimate rape' and insulting women," a math course on "counting to 218 votes" — and, of course, trust falls.

Also on the suggested topics to be discussed: "How to increase our approval ratings: What root canals, traffic jams, cockroaches and head lice are doing right."

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — Under normal circumstances, congressional Democrats assemble yearly here at the luxurious Greenbrier Hotel for a weekend of frivolity and intellectual stimulation.

"It's a time to recharge our batteries, to refocus ourselves on what we stand for and how to go about achieving it," said House Majority Leader Thomas S. Foley (D., Wash.).

But this year the pilgrimage was a journey of discontent, a weekend fraught with fear of hidden political dangers from the scheduled vote Thursday on a 50 percent pay raise for Congress, federal judges and senior executive-branch officials.

House Democrats will decamp Wednesday from Washington to the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa & Marina in Cambridge, Md., to hone their jobs and economy message going into the 2012 election.

When not participating in discussions, Members, staff and their spouses can also see the sights in Cambridge, which the Hyatt’s website describes as the “ideal location for family activities and water sports.”

According to the website, amenities include “pampering spa treatments, golf, sailing, fishing and swimming … [and] delicious meals in our many Cambridge, Maryland hotel resort restaurants.”

“Visit St. Michaels and Oxford, tour the Naval Academy and historic Annapolis, or explore museums and landmarks, all within easy reach of our Four-Diamond resort. Discover the unparalleled service and amenities of this hidden gem, the most distinctive retreat among Cambridge, MD hotels,” the website adds.

They're going to stay at a nice place. They always do. That's true for both parties. The GOP went to the Greenbrier at least once while * was in office. Therefore, a policy of pointing at the Republicans and saying "look at that tony resort where they're staying!" is going to backfire.

Further, as DC-area train enthusiasts know, sometimes a party will charter its own train to go to its retreat. It won't take me long to come up with a picture of a train that is shuttling a party from DC to the Greenbrier. Now, the train's consist amounted to a bunch of Amfleet coaches, so we're not exactly talking about the Oriental Express. Still, traveling on your own private train really beats driving.
