Super Bowl chicken wings getting pricier, less plentiful

Americans are going to chow down on 1.23 billion chicken wings during Super Bowl weekend this year. But there will be fewer wings available and they’ll cost more, according to an annual report.

The NFL championship game, this year between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens, is the biggest day of the year for chicken wings, according to the National Chicken Council.

This time around, however, there will be 12.3 million fewer wings eaten than last year, or a 1% decline, according to the trade group.

The group attributed the slide to fewer chickens in 2012, as corn and animal feed prices soared to record highs amid a severe summer drought and ethanol fuel production regulations.

but they're really good if done right, and kept out of the hot sauce and blue cheese.

But, then, I like chicken feet, too, so what do I know.

Prices are higher, but they're still on today's shopping list. Some for grilling, some for frying. It's all good!

A person should eat every part of the chicken.

I used to make soup from packages of backs and wings I could buy really cheaply at the market. Some veggies and some mixed grains, and you had food worthy of any table, and for not much money. At one point in my college poverty days, I used to make the soup using chicken scratch feed. The cracked corn, peas, and other grains worked really well, along with the backs and necks and assorted vegetables.

I had an acquaintance in college whose grandparents owned a chicken farm. He wouldn't touch chicken wings or pretty much chicken anything. He said if we knew how those chickens were raised and processed we'd never eat chicken again.

into the poor chickens.

We never touch them although we only buy non-hormone chicken.
