Nope. No mixed feelings for me. If a woman wants to do it, and can pass the tests, then allow it riderinthestorm Jan 2013 #2

While the military isn't the right answer for me and mine, I support those women who believe they are warriors. They deserve every opportunity to have the career they choose and be successful at it. Lifting restrictions that might inhibit their forward promotion is only natural at this point imho.

When my daughter told me she was bisexual I was concerned because I know it is somewhat more complicated to protect yourself against sexual transmitted illnesses if two women are having sex than if a man and a woman are having sex. But I never for one second ever considered her freedom to be with another woman a bad thing. Freedom is freedom. Freedom is to be celebrated. Always.

Women can make that choice to volunteer to serve in the miitary and they will not face limits on their duty assignments or chance of advancement. (Especially for officiers, combat experience is critical in achieving high rank.)

My kids are 22,21 and 18. My son (21)had to show he registered with the Selective Service to get grants for school. My daughters did/do not.
I don't like war and hope there is never a draft, but I guess for women to have "true equality", if men have to register, so do women.
Perhaps this is a good time to bring up the ERA again?
I would like to think that having more women in the military would make it more "peaceful", but I don't think it is what sex you are. Some women are more inclined to believe in military defense, and some men are not.
So I guess as a society we are breaking sexual stereotypes in that sense, but it would be nicer if we would evolve more toward peace and not war. That is asking a lot in a country where we spend so much on war.

All this does is open the option for women to serve in combat if they qualify. In other words it levels the playing field for women in the military.

Women in the military sued for this right and it was awarded to them. That's a step toward true equality and a win for American women.

As an aside, the military is the last place I'd want any child of mine to make their career if the choice were mine.

At least in combat, they can shoot back at some of their exploiters.

For officers, of course, this is critical, as without combat command on your resume, you're going nowhere. I mean, does anybody really *want* to be Chief Procurement Officer?

And sights should do wonders for their family relationships and raising children. No issues there.
