Sunnyvale police: Student who reported gunman on campus admits making it up

AAAARGH! First the gun hoax at the University of Virginia at Wise, then another such hoax at a middle school in my county:

A report of a gunman at a middle school that led to three schools being locked down amid a massive law enforcement response Friday was fabricated, according to Sunnyvale police.

Police say the student who reported seeing a man with a gun on the Cupertino Middle School campus at around 10:30 a.m. later admitted the story was false, but not before about two dozen officers from Sunnyvale, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office and the California Highway Patrol swarmed over the area. Cupertino Middle, West Valley Elementary School and Homestead High School were all locked down, and streets around the middle school were closed as police searched for the reported gunman.

Way to screw over his entire community like that by crying wolf.
