Cry Purple

This is a remarkable story of a woman's journey from homelessness, prostitution, drug addiction, and prision to blindness, motherhood, and happiness. She's now an advocate for people who are caught in the world she escaped from. She's also a strong advocate for changing the law so that it no longer penalizes people who do manage to escape (e.g., the law in the state where she lives that forbids former felons from receiving food stamps).

My wife edited the book and I created the cover. We've done that work for quite a few other authors, but this story has really grabbed me.
