Friday is the 10th anniversary of the Columbia disaster.

(9,330 posts)14 and at lunch. Some boy told me. We had science class next. Our teacher had the radio on and she was crying.

(49,445 posts)A teacher came into class, and spoke briefly with Mrs. Fontaine. Then she told us "the space shuttle just blew up".
Mrs. Fontaine then tried to tune in the classroom TV so we could see the news. I don't remember if it ever worked or not; I don't think it had an antenna on it and all we got is snow.

(34,845 posts)The radio played all day over the ceiling speakers in my part of the office. I stood up to hear it better -LOL- and my boss started to talk about something and I told her what had happened. We stood side by side and listened to the rest.

(13,421 posts)The bar looked out over the entire dining room, and I had the TV on behind the bar. Everybody walked in and sat down at a table facing the TV. They ate their lunch quietly while watching the news coverage. Once they were done eating they'd pay me at the bar. Almost every person that came in that day commented to me about how awful/tragic it was. Very somber, incredibly sad.
