(12,194 posts)I LOVE all those icelandic type breeds.
They're in a class all their own, though the eskies can be a handful lol.
Yes, we have a stereotypical eskie that loves to counter surf. LOL
Have you seen the Klee kai?

(48 posts)Is the one that is well loved by its family, provides faithful companionship, and is friendly and always wagging its tail. Breed is less important than temperament!!
All dogs make our lives better.

(34,119 posts)"Poodles are awesome dogs." Until I met a wonderful Standard I never would have and now have 2 of my own. Incredible dogs. They do not have to be foo fooed up, they look great in short coat and are really fine farm dogs.
We also have an old lab, wonderful of course, and a beagle mix who is certainly a different personality and a challenge but we love her.
Still, I gotta say, I adore my big poodles. Smartest dogs I have ever worked with and sweet as can be.
**I don't think there is a dog I could not love so these silly contests or compilations of numbers registered really don't mean much, just a chance to shout out that I think Standard Poodles are the best kept secret out there.

(28,749 posts)My favorite by far in my personal experience with temperament and beauty is a Ridgeback. I really like the "blue" Thai Ridgeback but also would be quite happy with the more common Rhodesian Ridgeback.

(6,123 posts)I've always had boxers but only one at a time.
We have a 6 year male & we are thinking of getting a boxer puppy. Any advice or tips? Should we get another male or go with a female?
sad-cafe
(1,277 posts)We had our male first, other people would bring their dogs to play in the backyard and the male boxer was pretty territorial. When we brought the female home, he was and is very protective of her. They get along great!
Bjornsdotter
(6,123 posts)That was sort of our thought, but I like to get the opinions of those who have two boxers.
sad-cafe
(1,277 posts)they still wrestle but it is a playful kind. He really does look out for her. When she was a lot smaller, they were outside doing their thing. We called them in and he came in upset. The better half asked him where the baby was and she had gotten out under the fence and he took us right to the place she was at. Very protective of her.

(6,123 posts)...and very heartening. We were a bit concerned about getting another dog, Bailey is really the baby of the house. After reading your post I am quite encouraged as Bailey is such a friendly dog and I think he would do well with a companion.
sad-cafe
(1,277 posts)and too many things can go wrong so we got her fixed before she started Heat so we wouldn't have a mess to deal with . WE are also going to get the male fixed probably this summer. They really are the best of friends.

(6,123 posts)...puppies is way too much work. My aunt bred Great Danes and they have huge litters...I learned then that I could never do that. I would also be a fail as a breeder as I don't think I could let any of the pups go, then I be a breeder & a hoarder!
