just filled out an online survey given by the State Board of Education and

the Superintendent of Public Instruction. It was asking what we value more in school performance, passing state tests or rate of improvement. It also had a comment section and I definitely let them know that I was upset that my son is required to take an 8th grade math class despite being at a 5th/6th grade math level. I said I would hope that they would teach based on cognitive ability and not based on grade level. Who knows if it will make a difference but at least they are asking the question. That is the first step.
