Santorum: Obama wants Americans to go to college to become indoctrinated

With all the news being focused on Newt and Mittens, he had to say something bold to get his name back in the news:

Rick Santorum accused President Obama of wanting Americans to go to colleges and universities that will indoctrinate them to be liberals.

"It's no wonder President Obama wants every kid to go college," Santorum said Wednesday in Florida, according to CBS News. "The indoctrination that occurs in American universities is one of the keys to the left holding and maintaining power in America. And it is indoctrination. If it was the other way around, the ACLU would be out there making sure there wasn't one penny of government dollars going to colleges and universities, right?"

"If they teach radical secular ideology, they get all the government support that they can possibly give them," Santorum continued. "Because, you know, 62 percent of children who enter college with a faith conviction leave without it."

Santorum's comments continue down a route of attack on Obama he's taken in the past, accusing the president of saying every American has to go to college.

Um, yeah, because they learn critical thinking. When you learn critical thinking you stop accepting things on "faith" and start thinking for yourself.

At any rate, I'm pleased to hear that Santorum has such a dim view of education. I hope the doctor, lawyer, dentist and accountant that he uses never went to college, either. I'm sure that will work out really well for Santorum. It's not like you need a formal education to become an engineer, a scientist or a physician, right?

they're not "children," FrothyMix - discard their "faith convictions" after receiving a college education perhaps it is because they have learned the most important thing there is to know - critical thinking skills. And I think he pulled that statistic out of his ass.

Calling Santorum an imbecile is insulting to the other imbeciles.

People making up their own minds, it goes against the odds of republicans winning elections. If everyone was free to make up their own mind, the GOP would be a small group who met for coffee once a year and complained about their problems.

he called and told me "I didn't know this history, they didn't teach us this stuff in HS." What he was talking about was the labor struggle in the US, the NA exploitation, the political corruption, robber barons and other truths, they don't want the plebes to know.

It's not indoctrination, students finally get to debate their fellow students on touchy subjects; and a class in logic is usually required.

He went to college; so it's okay for him to go, but not others? Well, that sounds down right "elitist."

How many children enter college? Where did the 62% figure come from? What indoctrination? "The Left" is "holding power" in America? Just a mess of RW talking points strung together in the same way as usual.

The RW's goal is to create a plutocratic theocracy. They have a pretty good chunk of their infrastructure in place now. RWers like Santorum want a US population that will go along with whatever they do or say or pass into law, without question. Critical thinking is like Kryptonite to the philosophical underpinnings of a plutocratic theocracy, and the RW hates higher education because it teaches critical thinking skills.

and a continuing of the arts

"Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture." Francis Bacon

"Critical thinking is essential if we are to get to the root of our problems and develop reasonable solutions. After all, the quality of everything we do is determined by the quality of our thinking."

Seems he's had a lot of years of left-wing indoctrination.

Blame the victim, and then blame them for any move to "pull themselves up from their bootstraps".

Great commentary though from others on this thread at how critical thinking and open mindedness enlightens people from the narrow strictures of religion.

As their world view changes, they reject the fear and ignorance that you used to control them. After all, if we had an educated public, who would be left to vote for the GOP?
