Former Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer, set for trial in less than two weeks, has filed a witness list, that includes a great many political heavyweights: former Gov. Charlie Crist, former Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, former Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon and former Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos.
It also lists former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, House Speaker Will Weatherford, former party chief John Thrasher and many others.
Greer, 50, is charged with six crimes: fraud, money laundering and four counts of theft. The victim of each, according to the South Florida grand jury that indicted him, is the Republican Party of Florida.
Prosecutors allege he secretly set up a shell company, Victory Strategies LLC, and used it to funnel $125,000 into personal bank accounts. Of that, they allege, $66,000 was stolen – money paid after the company submitted phony invoices.
