An open letter to John McCain

First let me say this. I do appreciate that when many of the Chickenhawks were safe and warm in College or doing "Missionary work" you went to war, and spent years enduring genuine suffering. Even most of the people who hated the War, who hate the military, would have sympathy for the poor kid who was worried about getting tortured or executed every day. I do not say this as a formality; I do think that even IF your luck would have made it so that your of duty consisted of nothing but KP in some Army Base in Mississippi, the fact you did join in wartime puts you ten miles above the Limbaughs, Gingriches, Cheneys, and yes, Romneys.

Which is why you have been a serious disappointment for the past ten years.

in 2008, you sold your soul. Let's not mince it, you kissed the ass of the very same people that used to call for your lynching because you dared think of running against W. Picking Sarah was not only a blatant attempt to pander to that faction, it was also a mockery of your "friend" Hillary, who had, up until the 11th hour, treated you with kid gloves. Palin was everything Hillary was not, someone who pandered to sexist stereotypes, and who pandered to the religious dimwits that have always been the dead weight that kept America from making progress.

in 2012, you were in a position to again remind the GOP of why it was not doing well. You could have told Mitt that he needed to avoid listening to the people who frankly, would only hate him slightly less than they did Obama. You could have acted to draw your party more towards the center, where they actually had a chance, considering that the Obama/Clinton axis is scared of actually using the word "liberal." You could have appealed to people who wanted a sincere something rather than a watered down left. But no, you went back to your new friends on the right, as did Mitt, and you got your head handed to you.

Now of course, you showed that you are determined as ever to continue slouching rightward. Honestly, the way you dragged Hillary before you was worthy of a Stalinist purge. You egged on punks like Rand Paul, and frankly, well, if I was someone like my feminist friends, I would probably make a wonderful paragraph about how your actions were an example of the "rape culture" in America; in other words, you turned the deaths of four Americans into an excuse for the high tech raping of an uppity woman. If you think we did not see the fact you wanted to punish Hillary for helping Obama, you are dumber than you look.

Well, the fact is, you are soon to be history. For all the attempts of folks like Jan Brewer and Joe Arpaio, Arizona is going back to being what it used to be, a place where those descended from the Mexica Tribe lived. Now, it will still be America; do not buy into that "aztlan" BS some well meaning fools push. Most of us Latinos know why we came to America, and it was not for the burgers, but because we want a society that actually lives up to all those ideals we hear about in school. The America of ideals may have never been reality, but we, just like everybody else who comes here, will work towards pushing it closer, inch by inch if need be. With all due respect to your service in Nam, the battle against our national demons is every bit as important as any war fought abroad, and your tragedy is that, while you showed up to a war abroad, you were awol for the fight needed here at home.

He was willing to fight for rights in Nam...unwilling to fight for our rights in the US.

Go home Mr McCain...you have become a disgrace to this country.

He is an Annapolis grad (1958) and both son and grandson of 4-star Admirals. He just went into the family business and was not very good at it. He's a better Senator than he was a pilot which tells you something right there.
