(16,350 posts)football. It was exciting to the end. Alex Smith must be saying, "What can I say? Wasn't my fault."

(18,705 posts)All they needed was one to win.

(27,711 posts)Score the touchdown and leave Baltimore with no time on the clock.

(18,705 posts)To many people dogging the pass receiver.

(24,853 posts)Maybe not the first time... but we agree.

(27,711 posts)One of those throws wasn't even to a receiver with a chance to get in the end-zone.
Ngata was out.
San Francisco 49ers Rush Yds Avg Lng TD FumL
Frank Gore 19 110 5.8 33 1 0
Colin Kaepernick 7 62 8.9 15 1
Baltimore managed to give up 182 yards on the ground and still win. The 49ers only gave up 98 yards rushing. They've shown a lack of faith in Frank Gore all season for some reason in key situations.
- I guess there's always next year.

(24,853 posts)Had they let him run the ball when they were at the 5 (run the ball two or three times) he would have set the record AND been the MVP.

(18,705 posts)The receiver would have been in place to catch the ball.

(26,549 posts)OTOH, it would have been a tough catch without the holding - defender would still have been in his face.

(18,705 posts)I just didn't like the call.

(135,425 posts)but we actually enjoyed the contest this time...it wasn't boring!
I really didn't care who won, but the "getting there" was interesting for a change.

(28,762 posts)starting watching it just after the half. Had to get some sleep because I have to drive all night.

(27,670 posts)I only saw parts of the second half and I'm not a fan of either team but...how could the referees not have seen that holding penalty right before the end of the game that they showed in slow motion replay over and over? Two minutes to go in the super bowl, and they missed that? A bat could have seen that from the next county.
I feel really bad for the 49ers; they most likely would have won the game if that obvious penalty had been called.
Boo refs.
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)defense men stopping them, running the clock.
there was no need. just cheating. those couple of seconds would not have mattered.
but ya, it made the end not as good.

(18,705 posts)I am not a fan of the 49ers but damn, it looked like holding to me.
MadHound
(34,179 posts)Then the refs had to keep their flags firmly in their pockets, despite an obvious Raven hold. I hate when the refs decide the ending of a game like that. If it is a penalty, you call it, whether it happens in the first minute or the last minute.
Buzz Clik
(38,437 posts)It wasn't called.
Sorry, but that's how it goes.
MadHound
(34,179 posts)It's not like we didn't see the replay, time and again.
It isn't like refs haven't blown calls, or had bad non-calls, it happens virtually every game. Most of the time, they don't matter because there is enough time left on the clock for the team that got screwed to overcome it. But last minute blown calls or non-calls can't be overcome in the time remaining.
I don't have a dog in this fight, really didn't care who won, was just wanting a good game, which it was until the refs blew it with a minute fifty to go.

(38,437 posts)Major contact on both sides, initiated simultaneously.

(18,705 posts)The game was still going, the players were on the field.
I wonder if the coach will raise some hell over this lack of call.
MadHound
(34,179 posts)But there are rules in place that prevent to much complaint by the coaches over the ref's decisions. Grumble too loudly and you get slapped with a nice hefty fine.
The ref's integrity must be upheld at all costs, even though they blow at least one call per game.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)The coach was really pissed at the end.
That was important call they made.

(38,437 posts)It begs the question: where does that Ravens offense come from? Awesome. Flacco is truly all that.
And the 49ers were spectacular as well.
Next year, I will be sure to set the DVR ahead of time to allow me to fast forward through the half time.
