(8,434 posts)It almost looks like the orange marking paint a utility company or landscaper would use, which is made to spray with the can upside down.

(32,088 posts)I lived through a few blizzards back in Chicago where the snow drifted up to the roof tops in some places. If you had a door on the side of the house where the snow drifted, that's what one would find if they opened that door. It's like that in in northern MN-WI-MI, and out in the Rockies, Cascades and High Sierras.

(32,088 posts)For the NYC/Boston areas, it is. They don't normally see those amounts of snow dumped on them at one time. Hell, down here in the South, a mere dusting is a big deal.

(8,053 posts)went through this back in 2010 when the Snowpocalypse rolled through DC.
We were fortunate in our area that the county plowed all of the streets in our municipality, so once my landlord, his helper and I got the backyard/driveway cleared, we could get out.

Great snow pic, BTW. They're saying another 6" or so thru today. Maybe Boston's 6th place storm ranking will go up?

(3,927 posts)at Newington Children's Hospital (no longer there). One year, we had a foot of snow a week.....my backyard looked like that all winter. I had a little westie who gathered snowballs on her coat -- first and only dog I ever had who had to wear a snowsuit! Sort of makes me homesick -- those were great years!

(42,770 posts)think Manchester was so boring. But, think it made for better and more fun relationships with friends and family.
where are you now?
tpsbmam
(3,927 posts)the Asheville area. Manchester was PERFECT for the time I was in grad school. Went to Trinity for college, UConn grad school & worked at NCH -- did research there & some co-treatment with my supervisor there. Manchester was sort of plop in the middle of Storrs and Newington, so it worked really, really well for me.

(42,770 posts)We used to sled on that huge hill on campus. My BIL was the research librarian at UCONN. Did you ever go to Shady Glen? We stopped there at Christmas and it has not changed one iota since we were kids. Still have that great crispy cheeseburger
I did an assignment in Rocky Mount and took a weekend trip to western NC. Didn't make it to Ashville - but had a
great time in the new wine country in Yadkinville. It is really a beautiful state. so green. The most fun we had
was going to an emerald mine and you get to pan for emeralds in a stream. And, of course stopped at Andy Griffith's home town - corny but fun.

(3,657 posts)People start driving them nuts while it's still snowing. "When you gonna plow the parking lot"?
They don't care that the streets are still blocked and that it's illegal to drive anywhere...just get the parking lot plowed

(8,053 posts)when we had 2 massive storms roll through down here. My landlord and I dug out the back yard, where we park our cars. 2 1/2 feet of snow--it took us two days to dig out.
AsahinaKimi
(20,776 posts)And once you get inside the car... it takes a while for the heat to come on.. meanwhile you are sitting there shivering as the cold air blows out. I remember one year, my car had about 2 inches of ice on the wind shield.. I tried spraying it with that anti freeze stuff in a can, didn't work. I turned the heater on inside...eventually it was enough to loosen the ice.
Had one of these, like this guy has..
Mine disappeared after I moved back to California. I also dumped my Eastern windshield wipers.. they were too heavy for Southern California weather..(I moved to Santa Barbara for a while.)

(20,776 posts)Unfortunately its too expensive to live there, even more expensive than San Francisco. I was renting an apartment at the time, it was about 770 dollars per month. Within a three months, the land lord raised the rent to 1440 a month!!! I had no choice but to move out. I eventually gave up and came back to San Francisco. My current place is only 1050 a month, which is way cheaper that Santa Barbara.

(353 posts)I love most dog breeds but I`ve never had a Golden retriever. I have heard they are a lovely dog to have around kids. I have a small dog now (Dachshund and Pomeranian mix) but have always thought if I get another dog a Golden would be first choice. Stay safe and warm!
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)kind sweet dogs. But, all have been very energetic and hyper. You have to have lots of space for them to run around and not have any nice china and crystal in the house.
One of them was kept in the bathroom as a puppy when they went out. When they got back, the bathroom rug had completely disappeared. she ate every last thread of it.
