Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsLast night, I was using the hubcaps of this car to measure how deep the snow was getting.
Not so much anymore.
Still snowing, about 22 inches in Boston so far. By the time it's done, it'll be a Top 5 storm.
Not. Shoveling. Yet.

(10,597 posts)...a little at a time. A little at a time. Please don't over do it! If you have kids in the neighborhood who knock on your door and ask to help with it for a fee, take them up on it. Take care in Boston!

Are you using metric hubcaps or SAE?
I would think a yardstick to be easier, but to each his own. I know Bostonians have their, um, quirks, shall we say.

(154,021 posts)We got white out conditions in the higher elevations and 7-9 inches in places...and a wicked hail storm overnight...for the flood reports to start.
The usual places will as soon as the melt starts
You watch yourselves for that too...

(3,660 posts)nothing you can do... the snow is falling, roads are closed... stillness.
If you have the heat and food and company of a loved one or good book or just your thoughts and pen and paper...
whatever you have
That stillness is sweet and appreciated
Shoveling will happen, demands return
but now that stillness
Enjoy.

Well, OK, it's pretty big. At least Gov. Patrick had the sense to shut down the highways (seizing our Constitutional freedom in typical liberal fascist fashion, according to the radio gasbags) so they won't be littered with stranded vehicles this time.

Hole-ee crap! I can't even imagine...
I miss the snow, we haven't had a good snowstorm in OKC for the past 2 years. Of course, the few years before that, we had really severe ice and snow storms which are unusual for us. Dangerous, but fun--that's what's winter should be about.
I'm there with you in spirit, sitting here with Weather Channel video running on my phone (I love listening to the weather reports when it's bad).
Stay safe!!!
I read this and laughed.... you are a true Okie!
KatyaR
(3,445 posts)who made us track the weather every day for a month. Then I got a ham radio license years ago, and many of those people are CRAZY storm chasers.
Besides, if you're a native Okie and live at the weather crossroads of the country, shouldn't you be interested in weather?

(41,832 posts)the OK in my name means Oklahoma. I lived in the OKC area when Gary was just starting. He was a young man then.

(37,452 posts)That old snowthrower did it job, but I'm more tired using it. I had a choice leave it in the back garage and climb threw the snow or cover it by the back step. I plugged it in and covered it with the BBQ grill cover, worked great. We had light snow but it piled up with drifiting here in the area 60 miles north of NY city. I'm glad I went out early the bright sun is making it thicken as it melts.
In other news were getting another 6 inches on Wed.

(86,775 posts)but the pile of snow on top of the garbage bin is telling! Let's see, all I can think of looking at the shape is something that's shaped like a PT Cruiser, but that's probably not what it is.

(86,775 posts)I ain't never seen or heard o' them thangs yet. Up here is not many people land, we don't see many late models until they're old news! Notice the only thing I could imagine? And the slope in the back is what made me come to that conclusion, and that there looked to be a hood in the front. one that's mainly perpendicular to the windshield... but under all that snow, you only have so many clues to go with.
Expect a lot of them in about 5 years.

(30,251 posts)Where I'm at it wasn't as bad. I'm in NJ by Manhattan and there was plenty of snow, but not as much as you guys. In a little while i'm going to go and dig the car out of the snow. I'm looking at images on TV from Central Park and there are tons of kids sledding and some people even on skis (cross country).
Added pics, Hoboken, NJ

(86,775 posts)Looks like you got a bit of snow there. In my neck o' the woods, that's not an uncommon sight. But I can give out some empathy... no matter how often that happens, it's still a major task moving it out of the way.
Hopefully some neighbor kids will come along with a thrower/blower and help out.
Good luck, at least you still have Internet!

(12,165 posts)This city was shut down for a week and I couldn't leave my house by car. The news broadcast live from the greyhound bus station where a bunch of people were stranded.
It used to snow a lot when I was growing up. And just like I was excited about school closing, I was equally or more happy about the unexpected week off.

Compared to farther north, this one dropped only a relative dusting around Philly.
