I'm looking at the weather guys on TWC and most of them are standing in what looks like 6 inches of snow, talking about "this horrendous blizzard". Growing up in Michigan, I remember blizzards that blew in snow clear up to the roof of our two story house.
I don't always believe these guys, especially when I see them here in the Keys during hurricane season and they keep filming the same broken palm branch laying in the middle of the road.
So, how are all you guys out there? I hope you are staying warm and safe!

Now that storm in the Northeast? Wow--it looks really bad. I hope everyone is safe and where they should be, with any pets inside!

It's been snowing hard here in Belfast for about 18 hours now, with winds as high as 60 mph. They say it will stop soon. We'll see.

Last week-end, I probably had as much or more snow as 90% of the people hit by Nemo. I had to wade through hip deep snow to get to my hen house Monday morning. At the same time, the road out front was down to bare pavement and the schools were open. My community is well prepared to handle heavy snow storms.
Now - if the roads were closed several days, power was out, some areas were flooding.......that would be a real problem!
My Dad lives in Buffalo where the wind is always blowing at 10 to 20 miles an hour. He doesn't get the panic when national weather announcers breathlessly warn about "high winds" - of 10 to 20 miles an hour.
If my town was hit with a three week heat wave above 90 degrees with maybe a little air pollution thrown in, we'd be really hurting. As near as I can tell, that's just a typical summer day in some places.

(111,338 posts)thank goodness for small favors. That sucker dumped a record 48" around the Mass/RI border. This one dumped 38" on parts of CT. The travel ban in Mass/RI lasted for many days. This one's ban has been lifted in both states the day after, not to say anybody who tries to travel this afternoon and tonight doesn't have rocks in his head.
The worst part today is on Long Island, where abandoned and drifted over cars will prevent plowing and that will prevent emergency vehicles getting through to restore power.
Two feet of snow SUCK and it's going to be a mess for many days to come all over New England. It's just not as bad as it has been in the past.
