That is why they have smart cars and not the gas guzzlers Americans seem to gauge themselves on.

In effect, more mass transit, more car pool
more one trip instead of 20 a day would be good to stop waste

And if only people didn't vote 3rd party in 1980 and 2000 and we listened to the great Jimmy Carter, none of this would have been a problem.

Yet another thing I blame Ralph Nader and John Anderson for.

How possibly could Nader have said Gore and Bush were the same, when Gore was the #1 nominee ever on the green side.
Funny that Nader in real life didn't care about his own pet issue when he threw the race to Bush.

It is all about greed in this country. Oil companies raking in billions in profits and billions in taxpayer subsidies yet continue to gouge us with their gas prices. Any little excuse to raise prices because God forbid they might only make 3 billion in profit instead of 4 billion. I purchased a car last year that gets 30 miles to the gallon. I regret it. I wish I had purchased one of the smaller models that gets at least 40.

Oil Drops on U.S. Industrial Output, Euro-Area Exports

West Texas Intermediate oil fell after U.S. industrial production unexpectedly shrank and euro- area exports declined the most in five months, raising concern that fuel demand may weaken.

Futures pared the week’s gain as January factory output slipped while euro-area exports dropped in December. Oil extended the intraday low in late afternoon as equities fell on news that Wal-Mart Stores Inc. had the worst sales start to a month in seven years. The shares reached a four-month high of $98.24 on Jan. 30. The year-to-date low is $91.52.

“Industrial production shrank and the European data is keeping pressure on the oil market,” said Bill Baruch, a senior market strategist at Iitrader.com in Chicago. “Crude hit the wall around $98. That’s a major resistance level and a line in the sand that everybody is looking at.”

Crude for March delivery slid $1.45, or 1.5 percent, to settle at $95.86 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Trading was 33 percent above the 100-day average for the time of day at 3:26 p.m., after rising to above 100 percent of the average in early trading. Prices rose 14 cents this week, the ninth advance in 10 weeks.

There are three "local" gas stations nearby. Their price-per-gallon varies by 10-20 cents on any given day. The closest to us is on the nearby state road connecting to the interstate into Hartford...$4.10. Further on up the road, just before the interstate, it's $4.15. But if I drive in the other direction, toward the low-rent area of Willimantic, gas is 20-30 cents cheaper.

Can you say "gouging?"
